The Silvertown Tunnel is a proposed D2 tunnel between the Greenwich peninsular and the Royal Docks. The aim is to provide a local link to relieve the Blackwall Tunnels.
Unlike the Blackwall tunnels, the tunnel will not have a height limit. A dedicated Bus/Goods Vehicle lane in each direction will run through the tunnel, but not on the approaches. The north end will be at an enlarged Tidal Basin Roundabout, with a southbound cut-through from the Lower Lea Crossing, currently part of the A1020. The south end will rejoin the existing A102 at the Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach.
The Classification of Roads Plans show that the tunnel will become part of a realigned A102, with the Blackwall Tunnels being sensibly renumbered as a extension of the A12.
