Starlaw Interchange

Starlaw Interchange is junction 3A of the M8. The motorway sliproads connect to roundabouts on the short A779, which in turn connect to the wider road network via the Boghall Roundabout. The two roundabouts on the A779 are conveniently named Starlaw East Roundabout, connecting to the eastbound carriageway, and Starlaw West Roundabout, connecting to the westbound carriageway, although these two junctions are almost due north-south of each other.

Boghall Roundabout

The Boghall Roundabout is the largest and busiest roundabout within the junction complex. It is where the two arms of the A779 meet the A89 and A7066, themselves following former alignments of the A8, which the M8 replaced as the main trunk route between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The roundabout is a large 6 arm junction, as yet without signals, where the sixth arm is an unclassified road to the north giving access to Boghall itself. The A89 to the east is briefly dualled, but all other approaches are single carriageway, some widening to two lanes for turning traffic on the approaches. The left hand circulatory lane has been hatched out between the various approach and exit lanes around the entire junction.

Starlaw West Roundabout

This small roundabout lies on the A779 to the south of Boghall Roundabout and provides access to the westbound carriageway of the M8. The A779 crosses the motorway from the north and then turns east, while the folded sliproads head west along a lengthy dualled approach before splitting.

Starlaw East Roundabout

This is the smallest of the three roundabouts in the junction complex and provides access to the eastbound carriageway of the M8. A long 'spur' of the A779 approaches from Boghall Roundabout to the west, while the widely spaced sliproads approach from the south east, each curving away to join the motorway. A third arm is an unclassified road, which runs along the northern flank of the motorway to the east, providing access to the large distribution centre between the motorway and A89.
