Tongue End Junction marks the eastern end of the Okehampton Bypass. The junction was originally planned in the 1970s and several designs were produced. At the time an alternative northern bypass was also considered and plans for junctions on that route were also produced. The bypass eventually opened in the late 1980s and the junction was built to a different design to any of the earlier proposals.
