Cornwall

A young road fan with a love of all roads in Cornwall, and of course, the A30. He also has a love of Triumph, and especially his Herald 13/60 which he wishes to drive along the accessible pieces of the old A30 one weekend just as something to do! He started liking roads from an early age when he was picked to help his primary school with their 'Travel Plan' and spoke in front of some of what he thinks were some of the main people within Cornwall's road industry. He spent his spare time drawing road maps on fake islands and designed junctions for fun.

He uses this page as a place for himself to keep an eye on what projects he's doing, as well as letting others know what he's planning on doing.

On going Projects

A30

A complete revamp of the A30, including an update to the original route description, as well as a brand new route breakdown with the aid of Multiraider2 from Hounslow to Lands End. I've also written about the major improvements along the route, starting in Cornwall and then Devon up to the M5.

Still to come is the next section about the upgrades from Upottery to the M5 and why the A30 wasn't dualled east of Honiton. I'm still planning on writing an article about the Hounslow bypass (Great West Road/Great South West Road), as that was the first bypass on the A30 and A4 and should really have an article like other Pre-War bypasses (Winchester, Exeter etc.).

There is also some work to do on the junctions along the route and bring them up to a reasonable standard (3+ stars for most). This includes finding them on the wiki, linking them correctly, adding a description and getting some pictures of the junctions onto the pages. Everyone is more than welcome to help there. There is a list of junctions that have been linked correctly with ratings on A30/Sandbox page so you can help there.

Just a little exercise in how Infoboxes work, with the added benefit in providing an infobox for those pages that don't have one.

I had a lot of help from Steven and c2R on this, and for that I am enormously grateful!

In the Pipeline

A38

Similar in scale to the A30 project above, only he knows less about the A38 than he does the A30!

A3047

The new Camborne-Pool-Redruth Link Road has been completed and now the A3047 has taken over the route, the page needs an update as it hasn't had one in ages! It could be done before the end of the month! (It's now 17th March, so let's see how that goes).

Completed projects

A394

A general update to the page, including the history of the route, as well as an upgrade to the description of the route, which gained it a 4 star rating, which I'm quite proud of!

B3303

Not much of a project really, but it needed an update to the route and some pictures. But who's better qualified than someone who lives on the road?

Favourite Roads

A30 at Bolventor

M5

The M5 has obviously a road need to get to the Isle of Wight from Cornwall, or infact, to get out of Cornwall/West Devon, you will inevitably have been on the M5 for some time. He can only remember going as far as Junction 27 when he and his Dad went to Barnstaple once, he has been along it's entire length during a family holiday in Scotland, and can clearly remember waiting 4 hours on it going between Birmingham and Bristol on the return journey. People were getting out of their cars and taking photos, it was that bad!

A30

The A30 is a road close to his heart as he went to the IOW around three times a year. Over time he realised that there were roads following the dual carriageways, but not the single carriageway sections (Goss Moor!), and at places like Bolventor he realised that there was tarmac leading from the new road to the old and yet weren't being used. And then he realised that it was part of an old A30 which is how he discovered SABRE and found out where at A30/A303 went, and how they were created.

A394

As the main route between Penzance and Falmouth, via his home town of Helston it was only natural for Crowntown100 to be drawn to this road. Although a local road, it is primary status throughout and thanks to realignment of poorly placed corners and bypassing of places like Helston's busy Turnpike area, it has become one of Cornwall's higher quality roads. Regular trips are needed along it to complete the journey from his residence, and Crowntown100 has always wanted to see bigger and better things with the road, and although many things have been planned, like so many roads, they never came to fruition. Crowntown100 has used the page for the A394 as an area for him to use key terms he's picked up over the years, and has written a rather extensive description of it's route, which, by his own admission, can be rather dull to read and is littered with stupid errors.

A31

As the better half of the Honiton - Southampton Trunk Route, Crowntown100 has always preferred A31 to it's sibling, the A35, partially due to the scenery, including some of the most impressive gates he has seen, with a stone deer and a stone lion on the tops of two of them. The higher quality of the A31 from Ferndown bypass to the M27 have always appealed due to the speed of the road, although the four roundabouts, one of which has no junctions on it, have confused his whole family!

A35

Although the lesser half of the Honiton - Southampton Trunk Route, and in desperate need of improvement, the A35 has grown on Crowntown100, and has eventually seen him take interest in the history of the road, although the excellent Chinese at Bridport does help (if are heading into Bridport from Charmouth, when you descend into Chideock ring them up and it will be be ready when you pull up if traffic is good). But it does signify a loss of fun on their journeys to the Isle of Wight as the speed is reduced, and at some point's, has seen them reduced to a crawl during rush hour, due to sub-standard alignment, and a distinct lack of opportunities for overtaking, although the Tolpuddle bypass is a nice stretch.
