Highways Management

The Council is responsible for the maintenance of 1360 km of roads and associated footways in the district that are not managed by the Highways Agency, 558 km of these roads are covered under winter maintenance. This also includes, 234 bridges and structures, signal controlled junctions, controlled crossings, road markings, 2,500 illuminated signs, 1,200 illuminated bollards, traffic signs and 41,000 street lights.
