Warblington Interchange
The Warblington Interchange is the formal name for a dumbbell interchange on the A27, and the start of a relatively long section without any exits. It marks the end of the Havant Bypass, the older of the two sections of the A27 here.
History
As the eastern terminus of the Havant Bypass, which opened in 1965, it was built as an elongated roundabout with the bypass ending with flared carriageways thus leaving space for the road to continue north-east. However the original alignment of the A27, which ran immediately to the north, was barely adjusted and instead met the roundabout in the way of the future road. This was eventually diverted to meet the junction in a more normal position, and the junction was converted to a dumbbell, as was a more common layout at the time the Emsworth Bypass was built.
