Here is a
picture of the area near where I live. At the time of writing this
page, there were a few messages from PBM and Brad on the changing of
road numbers in that area, and this map shows just how things have
changed. The road numbers may be slightly difficult to see, but what
you are mainly looking for is the position of the A614, A161, A1041
and A1032 (which is now going under the number A1146 - connects
Hatfield to Thorne via "Brickponds"). The most obvious difference is
the lack of M62, M18, and M180. This is the post war picture, and it
is worth having a look at, which comes from the NCPW atlas. Click on

This is a
picture of the now "missing" motorway, the M16. It is now a part of
the M25, and if you go to the roads section, you find all the details
on it.

This is the west and east Severn area. After the M4
appeared, many road numbers were changed and moved around. These two
pictures show what life was like prior to the M4. Compare and
