The B9111 is the western end of the former A96 through Auldearn, which road now follows the Auldearn Bypass. The eastern section of pre-bypass road, through the village itself, became an extension of the B9101, but unlike in many other places, where all of the A96 would have been renumbered as the B9101, with one end a spur, here a different number was felt to be necessary for just half of the
