M42 7a/M6 are also fairly long, in both directions due to extended merge/diverge points on the M42

I was going to mention that, but consider the pair of "slip roads" in question to be more of a motorway than a slip road. You don't normally get D2M slip roads, after all.

It might make a good contender for Pathetic Motorways, in fact.

It's the same with J4 of the M6 southbound in the same area. Was it once where the motorway ended before joining the A446?

No. The sliproad was extended to get it out of the way of the M42 slip.

The original layout is available to view on SABRE Maps on the 1972 One Inch layer.

M49 is actually gaining a junction so shouldn't count

M4 Junction 18 A46 to Bath and Stroud. Particularly on Bristol side.

Never quite understood why the A46 Southbound has Exeter on its route confirmation sign

Hangover from the days where you'd have to fight through Bristol before the M5 was finished?
