Axx primary route gives way to unclassified road (A18 Ludborough)

This is due to the A18 taking over the route of a B road with little improvement.

Any more?

By Axx, not sure if you are wanting a two digit PR or just any PR. But for the latter I give you the A272.

The A59 used to give way to the B6265 in Green Hammerton before the bypass was constructed, as a result of the same renumbering scheme that caused the A1079.

Although rural examples are rare, there must be some on gyratory systems in urban areas, as they often incorporated sections of residential street.

Despite it having only 2 numbers the A18 at that point really doesnt carry much traffic, around 4k. The major route is the A16. What really needs sorting out is the junction of the A18 and A1173 which is the worst sort of flat junction and a well known accident black spot. I went through the in 2019 at a time when it was busy and it was downright dangerous.

Northbound traffic on the A67 at Startforth (Barnard Castle) gives way to the B6277.

Not far away, the A68 has to give way to traffic on an unclassified road in West Auckland.

Actually the dog leg through Ludborough is the original route of the A16 before it was bypassed

3 numbers but still primary: https://goo.gl/maps/VzjoBordMZ6pe4mw9. Not sure if we're counting gyratories though.

Trunk A9 gives way to non-primary A832
I think worth noting as it's an Ax route.

There's this weird gyratory, and has the A4 giving way to an unclassified road, kind of. A4 / London Road

Sure, but the give way is due to the A18 taking over the B1431's route, as per your map.

Of course, previously it was A882 both ways on the main road and A895 giving way.

The B1431 was considerably improved before being renumbered and bypasses were built on the A16 at Louth , Ludborough, North Thoresby and Scartho. Its not exactly an accident that this happened in the late 90's/early 2000's. The closure of the East Lincolnshire railway line and opening of the container terminal at Immingham played their part.

It cuts the corner off between the A16 and either the Humber Bridge, or the only motorway in the county, so it can get really busy at peak times. If that corner wasn't a giveway, there would be some really silly speeds going on.

What I find surprising is that, beyond the A1173 junction, the A18 is signed for the M180 and Humber Bridge, yet it loses primary status there. I get that the A1173 is primary because it goes to Immingham, which is quite an important strategic destination, but surely not as important as all the places you can reach via the M180 and Humber Bridge.

AADF on the A18 at Ludborough is 4k, the A18 only gets busy NW of the A46, the junction with the A16 at Ludborough can be tricky, AADF is 16k and the traffic is usually rather fast. In the autumn of 2019 I was staying at a cottage in Fotherby so am reasonably familiar with the place as my route to get there was in fact M180/A18/A16. The problem with the A18 was that while its shorter the right turn across the A16 at peak period of a Friday afternoon is not something I would like to do again.

2 examples I'm familiar with in Northumberland are the A1068 in Warkworth and the A197 in Woodhorn.

The A4110 in Herefordshire also used to give way to the B4529 and an unclassified road but looking on Google Maps this is now a mini roundabout.

Yep, it can be sketchy AF pulling out of there at times. If I'm coming back at "going home" time, I will often do a left instead, through the village, and come out on to the A16 on the next junction up. The visibility is so much better and there's normally no one waiting to turn right out of it.
