Nearest Motorway junction?

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
Turn left and Junction 10 is 1.5 miles away, turn right and Junction 9 is about 1.7 miles away, both on the Pathetic M53. Junction 8 isn't much further away, either. Or 11. Or 7...
Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
Without measuring I would have said M3 J6, however I've discovered that M4 J12 is about a mile closer.

M62 J22 Rishworth Moor at 6.8 miles as the crow flies. Now if only there was a road...

Office is about 85m away from the centre of M1J21.
Home is about 4750m away from M40J14.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
Nearest is the start of the A66(M) approx 22 miles away which takes 30 minutes.
Most convenient for most journeys is the A1(M) J49 which is 32 miles but takes about the same time and makes the overall route shorter for anywhere south of Scotch Corner. In fact the only time I have taken the A66(M) route is to pick up the A66 to Penrith.
I dont feel deprived though as I am 1/2 mile from the A174 and from there its HQDC all the way to the A1(M)

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
This is an almighty thread-bump!
When the thread started, mine would have been M6 J33. At the time I joined SABRE, it would have been M4 J18. Then, for a while, it would have been NI M2 J12.
It is now a close fight between M621 J1 and M621 J2 in a straight line, although my preference for access would always be J1.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
My first instinct on this one was M6 J40. It's the one I use most commonly and with some D2 road en route, it has always given the impression of faster, thus shorter, journey. However, with some further research, I found my location within West Cumbria places me in an odd position which gives me five very close contenders for this answer based on different criteria.
Junction, As the crow flies distance, Driving distance, Google maps journey time
M6J40, 28.2 miles, 35.7 miles, 44 minutes
M6J41, 26.9 miles, 35.3 miles, 44 minutes
M6J42, 26.1 miles, 30.8 miles, 45 minutes
M6J43, 27.1 miles, 30.9 miles, 50 minutes
M6J44, 26.6 miles, 31.5 miles, 44 minutes
Interestingly, due to the arc-like nature of the M6 and A74(M), I also found that all junctions from M6J40 through to J18 of the A74(M) are within 30 miles of my house as the crow flies.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
M1 Junction 34 : about 10 miles. But I don't think I have ever left here with the intention of joining the motorway network there. If going N on M1, J36. If going south, J29 (sometimes 29A). If going to M18, then J33. If going 'west-ish', M67 J3.

M62 J38, though J37 is quicker to drive to.
My old posts are just downright embarrassing.

A difficult choice between M60 J19, M62 J19, or the A6138(M) terminal roundabout.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
My actual nearest is the top end of the A666(M) at Kearsley at 1.6mi as the crow flies, the nearest "proper" junction is M61 J3 at 2.1 miles.
I tend to use:
I tend to use:
- M61 J4 if heading north towards Preston
- A666(M) and M60 J15 if heading south towards the M62/Altrincham
- M60 J17 if heading east on the M62 towards Huddersfield
- M66 J2 or J3 if heading south on the M60 towards Stockport.
M60: it gets around.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
Nearest to where I am now, as the crow flies, would be M5 jnc 8. But that's not easy to access from the eastern side as Bredon Hill rather gets in the way!
My most common points of entry to the motorway network, if travelling from home, would be M5 jnc 9, M40 jnc 8 (but will sometimes use jncs 9 or 15 if it's rush hour around Oxford), M50 jnc 1 and a toss up between jncs 6 & 7 for the M5 heading for North West. M69 jnc 0/M6 jnc 2 occasionally gets used for the East or North East. Journeys south and west are more common to heading north or east because of where I work and where my family are based.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
M27 J1: around 25 miles east of my hometown. During term time, i’d say i’m equidistant from M27 junctions 4, 5 and the southern terminal roundabout of the M271.

M1 J34 - a mile or so away.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
M50 J4 is my closest but M48 J2 (about half a mile further) is easier to get to.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
Physically nearest: M62 J25. Most easily accessible by an unfamiliar driver: M62 J24.
I use either depending on whether I'm heading east or west. If I'm headed south I use M1 J38.

Don't blame you, the westbound entry at J2 is particularly fearsome.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
For me it’s M25 J29, which is one mile closer than J30 by road, though which one I use depends on whether I’m heading north or south round the M25

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
I'm surprised to find that I never answered this in respect of home. A38(M) Dartmouth Circus junction is nearest, about 4 miles away. At work, the same junction is in line of sight at about 1/4 miles when I am at our Aston office. If in Telford, my previous reply applies once again.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
I'm 4.3 miles to Junction 4 of the M18, they are currently building a link to Junction 5 (M18/M180 junction) and I'll probably be approximately the same distance to that one, so choice of junction will be down to direction we are going on the M18.

Re: Nearest Motorway junction?
I find that a lot of the junctions nearest to where I USED to live have changed number since I left there.
M85 J1 has become M90 J11
M90 J8 has not changed
What is now M8, J21 did not have a number for a while (I think that when the urban M8 opened, 2-6 was East of Glasgow, 7-12 was west and the bit in the middle was un-numbered)
M63 J7 has become M60 J7
M63 J8 has become M60 J6
M56 J3a has not changed
