There are various C and U road numbers ending in K in this press release:

Yes, they seem to like referring to C and U roads, and I noticed somebody has added many of them to OpenStreetMap. I'm not sure how useful it is to refer to them though given most people will never have heard of those numbers, and they're not on signs or the vast majority of maps!

Has anyone else heard of roads with a letter suffix?

I believe that all of the former Grampian C roads have suffixes. for the current Moray council area (Moray_Council_(Class_III_Routes)) I have found the following:
E - historic Moray (Elgin)
H - historic Banffshire (Highland part) - The split is around Keith
L - historic Banffshire (Lowland part)

Therefore:
K - historic Kincardineshire

Aberdeenshire don't have a list available on line, but I would guess the following are plausible:
A - Aberdeen area
B - Buchan
D - Deeside and/or Strathdon
Rob.
My mission is to travel every road and visit every town, village and hamlet in the British Isles.
I don't like thinking about how badly I am doing.

Dumfries & Galloway Council uses suffix's for its C and U class roads , it stems back to the change from counties to regions /districts in 1974 so rather than re-number all its local roads any c or u classes that crossed the new district council boundaries were given the suffix (a) for Annandale/Eskdale , (n) for Nithsdale, (s) Stewartry and (w) Wigtown .
To give an example the C1 (The Old Military Road from Dumfries to Castle Douglas) is C1(n) to the former district boundary at South Castlehill , then becomes C1(s) to its termination at the A745 in Castle Douglas , they still use the suffix letters today for management and maintainence purposes.
Many a guid tune played on an auld fiddle.

Highland used to have a similar numbering scheme which seems to date from the former districts , so the C1 from Inverness District was referred to as the C1V and the C1C was in Caithness etc.

All the C and U class roads were renumbered about ten years ago with a unique number (within Highland) starting from C1001 and U1001.

The old numbers are still listed in the current lists of adopted roads.

Flying back home into Aberdeen Airport yesterday I got a few shots of the bypass. (Sorry about the quality)

Nice pictures, I also flew into ABZ yesterday but unfortunately was sitting next to the props and couldn't see very much! The road is definitely taking shape.

Not long home after collecting my mother from a very late flight into Dyce. On my way home drove over the new A93 bridge at Milltimber Brae, only opened a few hours earlier. 4-way traffic control at the junction, so will avoid there for a day or two.

The P&J claims that the AWPR is "scheduled to be open to motorists in November", although I personally suspect that is optimistic. The paper quotes "a senior member of engineering staff" who thinks it'll be open "at best" by next summer:
A senior member of engineering staff on the project, who did not wish to be named, said: “There’s not a chance it will be done by November, not from where we are just now.

“There are a lot of problems with getting the right work done in the right place, and getting enough people to monitor and keep control.

“I would estimate, at best, we may open by summer next year.”
I don't expect to be driving on the road this year at any rate!

What concerns me is if they are under time pressure (bare in mind DBFO contracts don't start to get paid until open to traffic)

a) construction standards slip
b) number of incidents - injury and non-injury - start to rise

Word that I'm hearing is that the earthworks is barely ahead of the paving operation and that three pavers have been sourced but there isn't really enough work to keep two moving. All the flights back south are fully booked every Friday as the senior players head home which won't have helped the share prices of those firms involved. Lucky we were second

What's the cause of that, unexpected bad winter weather around Aberdeen? :D

I heard that Carillion's recent financial woes are in small part due to a hit on this project.

Word on the street is that some of the companies are having to set aside as much as £100m each to complete the job. Weather, logistics, issues with blasting, and flooding are the main issues I've heard.

What's the latest word on the (incomplete) street on when the roadworks on the A90 at Stoney will be done by? Much as I am trying to, I couldn't avoid heading south through Aberdeen the other afternoon and wasted an otherwise perfectly good hour of my life gazing at the bumper in front from the Tesco at Portlethen onwards...
