There's also a straw Dalek in a field next to the A51 between Nantwich and Chester.

That spire is far too far south to be a gateway to Somerset. It would have to be just after the Avonmouth bridge for that to work...

I travel up and down the M5 regularly with my children and we are all really disappointed that the camels have disappeared for several months. PLEASE can anyone tell me where they have gone, and more importantly, when they will return?

BBC radio somerset featured a telephone interview with a listener who knew the farmer who owned the field where the M5 camels used to be sited. She confirmed that the farmer concerned had removed the camels for much needed overhaul!

The BBC presenter Ben McGrail expressed the view that he hoped they would return very soon.

The camels still aren't back on the M5, will they ever be there again? I miss them. But I like the running man.
Best wishes, Val.

The new statue on Ilfracombe quay could be put in place of the camels, being heavy it would sink in the soft Somerset ground and save anyone looking at the 30 foot high woman thing!

Humphrey has returned. He has a new pen just up from his old spot in the hedge. No sign of Boo.

It's strange that the camel has disappeared several times and has often taken a long time to return. It seems like in the past the camel has been taken away for various events, but do they just simply forget to return it?

There has to be a better story behind the M5 camel than the M6 Giraffe, which is just someone's way to advertise a flooring merchant... "google M6 Giraffe"

99% sure it was on a carnival float originally - Google Somerset night carnivals - a cross between amateur dramatics and the Wicker Man, with tractors and millions of lightbulbs

Well if that is the case - is not the much bigger plastic dinosaur also a distraction and the Wickerman and even bigger one?
Quite. Are the camels really a bigger distraction than The Angel of The North or Stonehenge for example?

The Wicker man is losing weight fast. All the wicker on his arms has gone, leaving 2 sticks and oh yes, he has no head....

How right you are in your description of the Wicker Man. What a shame.
