Next time I'm out on my bike I think I'll go visit the picturesque village of Rejoin Carriageway.

(Appalling GSV image, I know, but that's what it says. I have no idea what it's trying to tell you.)

Remarkable - they're the right signs in the wrong location. They should be further up where that (combined) sliproad joins the M8.

Cycle route and a motorway number in Transport.

Fantastic. When are we bringing in licences to design signs then?

When the physical sign was replaced, I'm guessing that the distance got copied across, with nobody engaging brain about the road now taking a shorter route.
The signs were changed when the bridge opened, here is the original which someone else uploaded to the gallery from 1990.

And here is the one that was there until this year:

Also, as you can see Thurso was never previously signed as the A9 went to Wick/JOG.
Think that sign has Thurso added on it now with Thurso being 119 miles from inverness but I don't understand how it's 119 miles from there and 108 from Thurso.

That's a very old sign. I wonder was it ever correct for a the motorway to be signed that way because I'm sure I've seen old signs like that before? I'd also hazard a guess that the M69 is only signed in blue because it's patched over an older "(A46)".

There was a short period where some signs did show motorways on white signs in green patches; it was never officially sanctioned but I suspect was done as a means to make them stand out because the standard "Motorway (M1)" in all black wasn't enough for some.

Coloured patches for motorway routes referenced away from the actual junction were introduced in 1975. The guidance, however, didn't update until the 90s which is why so many signs still used "Motorway" as a destination even when they didn't need to.

M69 is indeed patched over A46 on that sign.

Inaccurate mileage

This is on the A46 southbound just north of Syston. How can the M69 and M1 both be 9 miles away, when the A46 joins the M1 at Junction 21a and the M69 is 2 miles further on at Junction 21.

Probably dates from before the A46 joined the M1 at 21a, where it followed the current A607 and A5460 to... junction 21?

This sign in Aberystywyth is factually accurate, if not conventional (or particularly informative).

answer - it looked like this before and there has been no physical layout change to the junction: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.78743 ... 312!8i6656

Are you allowed to reverse the direction of the vehicle in prohibition signs like that? There's no mention in the "permitted variants" in the TSRGD for that particular sign.
