As NI has its own TSRGD I suspect it is covered in there, foreign roads aren't really a problem in Great Britain!

Didn’t know that, thanks! ... a day when you don't learn something is a day wasted...

Wesley himself was on BBC a few days ago talking about this. He thinks there are more deserving projects out there.

He also didn't look anything like I'd imagined

Yes, Wesley is younger than me.

NI's TSR does not cover direction signs, but the principles of the TSM are adhered to.

Out of interest, the Randalstown-Magherafelt section of A6 will be fully open (two lanes each way with 70mph limit) from Wednesday.

A5 road project exceeds £80m with no tarmac laid - BBC News: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-58090116

Full of quotes from a certain roads expert :)

Unfortunately, this will only lead to wibbling about how the east of NI gets everything and the west gets nothing. The reality that the congestion and road safety issues in the west of NI are simply far less serious than those in the east gets lost in the noise.

I've said before that there's no point going for "make do" solutions such as S2+1 where it's entirely predictable that D2 will be required soon enough - Newry's bypasses and the Castledawson bypass are examples of cheap solutions which should have been done differently in the first place and are burning money solutions.

I agree - there are also considerable strategic reasons why it's important to improve congestion and safety in and around Belfast - because that's where most of the stuff to the north of the island comes in by sea. York Street, for example, needs to be prioritised.

£53m of taxpayers money spent on 'consultant fees' before an inch of tarmac has been laid is disgraceful.

I'm wondering if this project will ever get off the ground.

With Stormont up and running, for however long, and a Sinn Féin minister for infrastructure there is some talk about this.
The Irish government will likely commit funding with a similar real value at current prices.

That's good news. I drove the section south of Strabane a couple of times last week and as usual witnessed the aftermath of an accident each way (minor shunts only this time) and saw the frustration of hgvs trying to get past agricultural machinery coupled with the mix of local traffic and long distance trying to get to Donegal and Derry...

Funding announced.
This will not finish the entire road, but surely it is time to get it started
