The M6 is nice through the Lake District. The rest of it is absolutely horrendous, so I wouldn't recommed any part south of Preston (except, perhaps, the Thelwall Viaduct).
I've been on the M6 from Gretna down to Birmingham as a passenger. We usually end up on the M5 heading to family in Gloucestershire. And I'm effectively an annual passenger of the M6 in the Lake District as I have family in Keswick. The borders route of A74(M), M6, A66 is a really nice route to be on.
I would recommend the A7 highly! I think a lot of the other roads in that area - A701, A702, A68, A70 - are also very enjoyable.
The parts of the A7 I've been on (as a passenger) are really nice, we took that road one year heading south. I'll also check out the others next time I happen to be in that part of Scotland.
I'm a pretty new driver (since April) so I haven't managed to cover a wide range of roads (driving wise) yet

I've done pieces of the A38. Mostly the part around Bristol and Gloucestershire and points southwards, and more recently the top end around Mansfield. I'd like to do the rest of it at some point.

With regards to the roads in the Borders, my favourites would be:-
A7 between Langholm and Newmill, and again between Hawick and Selkirk;
A68 at Carter Bar, Jedburgh (well worth stopping there), near Leaderfoot Viaduct, and Soutra Hill (a superb sweeping view of the Firth of Forth, Arthur's Seat, North Berwick Law and Bass Rock on the descent towards Edinburgh)
A698 between Bonjedward and Kelso includes a superb long distance view of the Eildon Hills near Heiton
A701 between Moffat and the Devil's Beef Tub
A708 between Grey Mare's Tail and St. Mary's Loch

For my next trip up to Scotland, I'm planning on doing both the A9 & the A82.

My list for the UK F99 has been expanded substantially, and very nicely :)

Britain (F99 only):

A1 (all in one go, deliberately)
A5 (likewise)
A7
A8
A9

A14
A15
A18 (what a boring drive that was!)
A19

A21 (way back from collecting a sofa in Brighton!)
A23 (on my way to collect said sofa in Brighton)

A42

A50 (chose this road heading back from Brighton, nigh on 9 hours back to Wigan!)
A55
A56
A58
A59

A62
A63
A64
A65
A66
A68
A69

A70
A71
A74
A77
A79 (deliberately, it really isn't hard)

A82
A83
A87
A88 (as easy as the A79!)
A89

A90
A92
A93
A95
A97
A99

That takes me up to 40 I believe. I need an extra 59.

Hopefully I’ll do the full A6 in December.

I managed to finish the A97 a few weeks back, so that's now 34 of the F99 done.
I've also nudged up to 30% of the Axxx routes, 70% of the A roads in Zones 7-9, and not far off 50% of the B roads in Zones 7-9 too.

My calculations suggest I have just under 550 miles of A roads in Zones 7-9 to complete to have the full set, although that doesn't include the (huge) mileage to get to them all, nor the ferries...

One would think not, but when I drove it I forgot that it continues south of the A70 and consequently missed a bit out. I had to remove it from my signature.

On my birthday weekend (just gone), I took my girlfriend and her daughter to Scotland. I managed the whole of the A82, but missed half of the A81 because it was closed.

Oh, and I'm missing about 10 metres of the A86, because I turned back to stop at a shop, drove around the block to get pointing in the right direction, and failed to resume at the point I'd left it!

So, it was a weekend full of 'D'oh!' *slaps head* moments. And - in a most unlikely turn of events - I was driving a BMW.

You think that you have driven a road and when you check you find that somebody has gone and diverted it round a bypass when you weren't looking!

Just looking at something else I noticed that the A44 terminates at the bottom of Penglais Hill in Aberysywyth. I had assumed, without checking, that the number continued to some point within the town centre. That at least means that I have driven the entire route as at 1971 after all, plus the section subsequently stolen from the A34.

My take on this is list is as follows

A1 - In parts - some in several versions as the roads has been developed
A2 - All one go
A3 - All in one go
A9
A10
A11 - Before the Newmarket bypass opened
A13 - All in one go
A14 - Old version (now A1198) and new
A15
A19
A20
A21
A24
A30
A38
A45 - Including the stub in Felixstowe
A55
A64
A66 - Many times :)
A67 - Alternate route home when the A66 comes to a halt at Scotch Corner
A68 - In one go
A69
A74 - pre motorway days - what a grind that was
A75 - Many times and many incarnations between !973 and 2017
A77 - In August this year
A78
A79
A80 - before they built the M80
A82
A83 - In one way on my back from Cambeltown in 2015
A86
A87 - in 2015 on my trip to Skye - A fantastic road
A88 (as easy as the A79!)
A94 - On my back from a trip to Aberdeen
A95 - In one go when driving from Lossiemouth to Perth
A97
A99 - In one go on a day trip from Inverness - John O'Groats - Thurso and back to Inverness on the A9. A long day but fun and in June plenty of daylight

I have done a most of the A6 except for the bits through Derby and Leicester

Indeed but way back when the A45 ran all the way to the river along what is now the A154. The tip of that spur has been swallowed up by the expansion of the docks.

As part of a 400+ mile road trip on Sunday, me and the lad drove the A3 all in one go, right from the water-front in Old Portsmouth over London Bridge to Monument. It was quite an effort to stay on the correct track out of Portsmouth (which I don't know well at all) as there are no 'A3' signs in the early stages and most 'out of city' signs direct you to the M275. With some prior planning, I'd set the satnav with some suitable destinations in the suburbs at two mile intervals and I'm glad to say we managed not to wander off the A3. The run into London was far more straightforward with the A3 being signed regularly.

Not quite so exciting was conquering the mighty M57 last December during another long trip to Liverpool, The Wirral and North Wales.

I'm afraid I haven't progressed by much on my own F99 challenge, having only added the A6 (which TBF is quite a long one) since November. With a total of 41, I'm still in need of 58 F99 roads. I'm looking at getting the full A17 (which I've been driven on, but not actually done myself) and A57 done sometime soon though.
