Re: Manky Signs
This
Not only hopelessly dilapidated (looks like it's been attacked with a spade), but why is it so damn small? Driving at 70, you literally can't see it! From the size of the poles, looks as though it should have been a bit bigger...

One here, similarly faded. Although the poles and the sign above are newer!chris486 wrote:You don't see these every day.
Re: Manky Signs
You can't get mankier than a panel that's fallen off. I've always wondered what treasure was lost when this was still in place. I know a few more, including one I already reported on the A4 in Chiswick and a N. Circular Road yellow arrow which left its frame eastbound before I knew about it, while the westbound thankfully remains, albeit partly hidden by the crash barrier.

By the way, did we ever have a link for the original no waiting sign mentioned? They're some of the rarest in the country, and so many possible variations hardly any are repeats.

Saw this beauty in Brighton today. Here's the same sign looking marginally less manky on Street View for comparison.

Re: Manky Signs
There are still a number of signs in Derby, like this one, that have 'Town' covered over with 'City'. Derby became a city in 1977...

Something like that.roverman wrote:Tree sap?oilywater wrote:Saw this beauty in Brighton today. Here's the same sign looking marginally less manky on Street View for comparison.
This sign looks pretty immaculate on StreetView - it wasn't very old when the car went past. Just over a year later it's got a fetching greenish tinge....

I know that cak only too well. After the tree outside our old house grew to a certain size we had that all over our cars, it turned out to be aphid honeydew, which of course, is their cak. Not nice at all, and a waste of time cleaning off as it's back the next day.oilywater wrote:Saw this beauty in Brighton today. Here's one, manky aswell so its right on topic!
^BTW I believe its still there.
Re: Manky Signs
It was there last week when I was at the Science Park... isn't there an unusual ownership issue around there with regards to the roads?

I think the roads around the university are privately owned but Charter Avenue should be maintained by the city.
I took this picture the other day. I suspect its condition means it dates from when Williams was bypassed in 1984.

The posts look in decent nick, they can't be original.Truvelo wrote:I think the roads around the university are privately owned but Charter Avenue should be maintained by the city.

Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.

I know of one in High Wycombe, it won't be there long as I identified it to be taken down to tip.DavidNW9 wrote: http://goo.gl/maps/oaMMV

Re: Manky Signs
This road sign not far from where I live has been like this for at least 14 years. I reckon someone had fulfilled a naughty ambition before handing in his previously licenced firearm at the time of the firearm ban circa 2000!
Re: Manky Signs
Oh, could you let me know the location- there's only one for about 200 miles besides that so would like to go and get it assuming it's still there. How long roughly do I have?M4Mark wrote:I know of one in High Wycombe, it won't be there long as I identified it to be taken down to tip.DavidNW9 wrote: http://goo.gl/maps/oaMMV

Edit. The post was from Yesterday February 15th. A year ago. Shame.
Re: Manky Signs
Had I remembered this thread I'd have put this here instead. Does it win the prize for mankiest sign? There were two in Croxley Green the same. If anyone can find any worse I'd like to see it (well I wouldn't as I'd rather they were in decent condition).
