Oh this will definitely be Ireland's spaghetti junction. Even more complex than M50/N3 in Dublin.

Nah I think the M3/M50 is more complex, there is a railway and a canal to be dealing with there, whereas Dunkettle only has a railway and the added constraint of a tunnel.

Loads of work going on onsite at the moment, I pass through it daily and its interesting to see it all happening. So far the works haven't delayed me at all, but various lane closures have caused issues for others.

Great progress continues to be made on the Dunkettle Interchange upgrade project.

Many of the bridge structures and earthworks are now nearing completion ahead of diversions and contra flows to enable works to start on the live traffic sections.

Pretty envious of this considering the absolute rubbish National Highways have come up with for M42 J6 or M25 J10 (sigh).

It's not perfect, as there is one movement missing, but its pretty good for Ireland. I can guarantee if this was proposed now it wouldn't go head with the green agenda.

TBH its an impossible junction to avoid in the whole south of Ireland, and causes obnoxious delays and should have been done a decade ago, but its great that its happening.

The movement is there, just not freeflow. The slightly dodgy thing is the weaving on the eastbound sliproad between the main junction and dumbbell - should really have braiding like that westbound. Still very impressive to get 7/8 of the main movements freeflow while achieving full access for the dumbbell.

Drone footage of the M8 J19 Dunkettle Interchange rebuild taken the first week of January.

Many of the bridge structures are complete - but much in the way of
earthworks still to be done. This is a huge scheme and will make such a big difference to Cork commuters and long-distance journeys to the city and county.

Latest drone footage taken on February 4th.
Huge amount of earthworks taking place to the south of the existing N25 immediately east of the existing juction.

Very good presentation by Cork County Council road project managers/engineers on the M8 J19 upgrade scheme below:

February 14th update on the huge Dunkettle Interchange rebuild scheme - this drone footage shows the entire existing junction, the extensive earthworks for the new free-flow slips and bridge structures.

Traffic on both carriageways of the M8 motorway has been re-routed over a new road alignment and bridge as part of the traffic management process.

Excellent drone footage of the M8 J19 Dunkettle interchange upgrade project for June 2022. :D

Good progress continues to be made - the final layout of the freeflow slips and bridges is now beginning to become apparent from the footage.

September 2022 drone footage of the M8 J19 Dunkettle interchange upgrade project. Excellent progress continues to be made. :)

New road signs are already going up along the sections of the new layout that will be opening to traffic over the coming weeks as the complex arrangement
transitioning the old junction layout to the new, freeflowing one continues.
