It sounds that they are preparing for the worst doesn't it. Even so, regardless of any future customs arrangements it makes sense for Irish ports to work on direct access rather than being reliant on access via another nation.

Cork suffers from "not the capital" syndrome which always helps. It will be like visiting LA in a few years time.

But they need to ditch that vile one-way system, PDQ.

Yep, there’s certainly a “second city syndrome” with Cork. Many Corkonians have a big chip on their shoulders when it comes to Dublin (the city dwellers, not the county people, incidentally) but although Cork saw a lot of major road investment in the 1990s it has lagged behind improvements around the rest of the country for nearly 20 years now and Dunkettle, the M20, M28, the North ring and Macroom bypasses are all very much needed.

All in all Cork is a lovely city. It’s well worth a visit if you haven’t been. West county Cork is stunning. Just don’t tell them you’re from Dublin!! :P

They even have a website dedicated to the secession of Cork from Dublin, tongue in cheek...

And precious little else. The N20 from Cork to Limerick is in a disgraceful state, there are lots of unbypassed bottlenecks throughout County Cork and the roads have clearly lagged behind other parts of Ireland. Every regional city has a direct motorway link to Dublin now anyway.

May as well throw this in here - the existing design for the M40 north ring section with the two Mway - Mway junctions indicated - one for the M20 to Limerick (left) and the M8 to Dublin (right).

The junction with the M8 is the next junction north of this one.

Final design should be ready at the start of next year - have high hopes! Exciting times for Cork.

Bit of a climb to the West of the M8.

Is some kind of North-South link from Blarney to Carrigrohane also proposed?

They seem to have copied the M20/M40 junction straight from the UK's M40. Let's hope it gets built in this form and not downgraded to a stackabout like Rathmorrissy.

It does indeed look like a partially-unrolled cloverleaf on that map, but the best known image of the interchange (possibly an earlier design?) shows a cloverstack, with the semi-direct connectors going through the middle on a third level.

There's a quite spectacular downgrade on the N6 Galway Bypass, with the full freeflow design preferred in 2015 (see below) replaced with a simple diamond-like interchange in the 2017 refresh.

Indeed. Current design for Galway bypass where meets current M6...the Galway bypass will be a continuation of the M6.

Yes, the road will continue to the N22 (which presumably will be motorway as well at at stage)

Good to see there are no intermediate junctions planned between the M8 and M20.

A pre-planning application has been filed by Sisk to make changes to this scheme.

Interesting. Wonder is a freeflow M8s - N25w going to be put in.

Would I be right in thinking that more traffic approaches the junction from the M8/N40 than from the N8/N25 despite the latter having free flow through the junction?

The main traffic flow is N25(w) to N40(s) and vice versa. The flyover I guess was just easy to put in as the tunnel was the last arm of the junction to be built.
