Thanks Duncan very much for this useful and interesting information.
I think that the A835 from Tore to Maryburgh was classified as the A834 for about four and a half years from 1981 to 1985, when the Tore-Ullapool road passed through Dingwall. The minor road from the A832 at Moy Bridge to Maryburgh (before the new road opened in 1985) is shown on some maps as a non-primary section of the A835 from as early as 1977/1978, which seems odd, but perhaps this road was used to access Tore before 1985, in order to avoid Strathpeffer and Dingwall? In my recollection is was a fairly narrow road.
It is also slightly odd that the design standard of the A9 from Tore to the Cromarty Bridge and the A834 (later A835) to Maryburgh was slightly lower than the A9 to the south of Inverness. Although built to a high standard, the carriageway is noticeably less wide.
Yes, the A835 didn't come into play until I presume the whole system was complete. I'm not too sure of the full sequence of events so I just stick to A835. Its what everyone knows anyway!
The carriageway width does narrow down across Black Isle, Specifically its just underneath the Golden Bridge at Raigmore where the hard strip disappears. I do not know why but I am on the case!
Northbound traffic is now on the northbound carriageway and southbound traffic on the southbound carriageway. Still single file as works are on going but it's another step closer. Bankfoot south junction is fully operational too.

That sounds like a big improvement from the pictures that got posted on here a while back.

That must be a very recent change. Now all we need are four months painstaking snagging works and it'll be ready for opening in December.

It wasn't like that on Monday morning, so I suspect it was done overnight Monday/Tuesday.
I wonder if they still have those "Warning Overhead Structure" signs up right by the new bridges? Yeah, you don't say. I saw the bridges coming a mile off but I didn't see the sign till I got there.

Yes, that is correct.
I travel to and from work along this section of the A9 and it was quite frustrating seeing next to nothing happening for a few months last year.
It is a slow process but has been quite interesting seeing it progressing day by day.

I can't say I have noticed the signs. I will look tomorrow. I have noticed the structures though!

I think those signs are intended for construction traffic.

Daily Record story mentioning that the Transport Secretary met locals in Dunkeld and Birnam last week. Not really any useful information in it but the fact that things are still happening is at least something.
