I think this has become a fashion. South Bucks Council, which had all the limits from 30 to 70 some years ago, progressively went around and reduced the whole lot by 10mph.

Exactly, which is why it's difficult to understand why the new lights have been installed.

Noticed that there is a pony & riding centre nearby - perhaps there have been a few close calls with horses and speeding vehicles?
So, people who don't slow down for horses respect lower speed limits?
