It will likely be done on a full weekend closure of the A45 later this year. The same team built the A6 Kegworth bypass bridge over the M1 in the same fashion.

The East Lancs Road is to see another junction improvement scheme start this year - this time it is Pewfall, where it meets the A58. Work is due to start next month and last until the end of May 2020. There's no plans for the scheme online, so I have asked St Helens Council when the plans will be visible. There's currently some utilities diversion works going on which have resulted in the westbound carriageway on the approach to the junction being reduced to one lane, which is causing a few issues.

Also undergoing upgrades in the St Helens area is the Linkway. The Sherdley Roundabout improvement scheme is due to start shortly, and the Sutton Hall roundabout replacement with a new set of traffic signals has just been completed.

Alteration scheme, please. Whether it's an improvement will only become apparent afterwards.

Work is now well underway at the Shiptonthorpe roundabout (A1079/A614) near Market Weighton. The old, small elliptical roundabout is being rebuilt as a larger, circular roundabout, adding a fifth arm ... which will be for a new alignment for A1079, to bypass ... the entrance to the services and the garden centre.

I’m hearing unconfirmed reports from another Hampshire based site that the link road from Whiteley to the A3051 at Burridge is under construction, although it will be to a lower standard than the existing Whiteley Way due to its primary purpose in serving the new North Whiteley development.

The Penwortham bypass A59 is now open, D2, from the existing A59 to the A582 widened and traffic signalled roundabout.

This means no through traffic for Penwortham itself and the sliproad onto the existing A59 just before the River Ribble viaduct has been closed permanently. This is to discourage through traffic on the old A59 through the suburb. It should reduce congestion at that point too where traffic used to join the A59 just before the Ribble towards Preston. There is now D2 from the city centre out for six miles towards Much Hoole (apart from a short section of S4 on the viaduct itself).

The supporting pillars are now installed for the new bridge over the A45, and the main supporting beams for the bridge are sitting nearby, waiting to be lifted into place - this will require the A45 to be shut during this process, but not seen any announcement of when this is likely to happen.
Well it was supposed to happen last weekend, with the A45 shut from Friday 8pm to Monday morning. However on Friday morning they found a problem with the "bridge mover" and it has been postponed to this weekend coming.
Let it snow.

Update on Glasshoughton Southern Link Road it is fully open. It's pretty substandard and very similar to Wakefield Eastern Relief Road it's got a few turn off stubs for future houses but no central reserves for turning. I've got a few pictures but it says file too large when uploaded.

Nice one. Not having been up there for 3 months I'd forgotten about this! How will the roundabout at KFC will cope? Time will tell.

Hi!

Are there any plans mooted to widen the S4 A59 viaduct over the Ribble going into Preston from the Penwortham Bypass to full D2, and why wasn't this viaduct built full D2 from the outset?

It will be interesting to see if the TVCA gets the funding from the Major Roads Scheme for the Darlington Northern Bypass and new Tees Crossing that it has applied for.

The Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme has moved on the the A5052 'The Strand' this week.

The end result is an attempt to lower the number of vehicle vs. pedestrian RTCs and smooth flow by reducing the road space (which of course has 'everyone' up in arms), reducing the amount of signals*, introducing a dedicated cycle route and plant many trees in a SuDS scheme.

*Despite what the earlier press releases and the consultation event said, it doesn't actually reduce the amount of signals, but it does replace junctions with signalised crossings in quite a few locations.

Bell Junction Improvements at Southend:
https://www.southendstandard.co.uk/news ... ight-work/
https://www.southend.gov.uk/better-sout ... junction/1

This is a fairly weird press release, in that they're saying the footbridge doesn't meet accessibility standards - which is fair enough. But there is already at-grade provision beneath it for those users with additional needs who would be unable to use the footbridge.

Leicester is doing the exact same thing outside St Margarets Bus Station - the footbridge is from the 70s and in pretty poor state, they're removing it later this month citing disability access as one of the reasons. There's an existing at-grade crossing which will be redeveloped into a "super-crossing". They reckon currently it's a 50/50 split between usage of the bridge and ped crossing which suggests the bridge isn't doing much.

In Tenterden in Kent there will soon be a roundabout at the A28 / B2080 junction (currently just a T-junction with no lights. The next phase will involve removing the A28 / B2067 junction, possibly grassing over the end of the B2067 to extend the recreation ground, so that all access to both B-roads will be via Beacon Oak Road (B2080).

There are no plans to replace the S4 over the bridge. With the opening of the D2 Penwortham Bypass last year the slip road onto the bridge from the old A59 at Penwortham has been closed to stop "rat runs" through the suburb/town and improve the flow of traffic on the bridge itself.

I have no idea why it wasn't originally planned as a D2 as on both approaches to the bridge it is D2!
