Stoke Council are finally getting the link road from A500 at Wolstanton to A53 at Festival Park underway.

Eight years in the making, apparently it will have an impressive 6 arch viaduct over the WCML.

Very interested if it will help with the appalling congestion in the area, but I'm not sure it will in the right spots.

This thread might be of some interest, documenting various local projects.

A note from SMT - the URL above links back to this thread as this post was originally part of another thread which was later merged with this one.

Two new posts have appeared - Another similar thread was merged with this one.
Though roads may not put a smile on everyone's face, there is one road that always will: the road to home.

Never seen it mentioned on here but Haddricks Mill / Killingworth Road in Gosforth (Newcastle) seem to be complete now.

For anyone who isn't local it's been a scheme up here which has been an absolute shambles (and that's been polite) from start to finish and has took 3 years to build a bus lane (which is half built as they couldn't get some of the land) and a mini roundabout but has been causing delays because of closures for anyone from SE Northumberland to the stage they had to put signs up asking people not to abuse the workers.

https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/our-city/t ... l-junction - Plans are there.

https://www.google.com/search?q=killing ... =777&dpr=1 - Numerous news articles of the numerous delays and other cockups.

You haven't seen the improvements to the A5094 in Whitehaven, where two new sets of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing have taken nine months and won't be finished until next year.

Here in Colchester, there is the ongoing dualing project for the A133 running just to the north of the town. A small 200m, or so St. Andrews Ave / Ipswich Road section, is nearly finished. This will help alleviate a decades old pinch point and help open up an old Homebase store for redevelopment as a Lidl & a Costa Coffee drive thru'. The cycling and walking provision however, could have been much better IMO.

Now that the Ipswich Rd and Colne Bank ends of the A133 have been widened, do you think ECC will bite the bullet and start to widen the longer central section of Cowdray Ave? I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is a plan to do this.

Two local schemes in Cheshire East here: -

https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/highway ... _road.aspx

Unfortunately for poor old Middlewich the Bypass to the south is still not underway. This was mooted before we moved to Crewe in 1995 !!

I think even Essex County Council will be relieved to see the back of this project, given the huge delays caused first by an absolute nightmare of old and (in some cases) leaking utilities, then Covid, and now cracks in the bridge on Cowdray Avenue.

I see that there's been a realignment of the A1079 east of Shiptonthorpe, from the east of the village to the roundabout junction with the A614.

It's certainly an idea which has been discussed. I guess there are other more immediate priorities before it gets done;
The entire 3.5 mile length of Colchester’s A133 key traffic route could be widened.

Essex County Council is considering dualling the complete length of the A133 from the Spring Lane roundabout to the Greenstead roundabout.

The A133 links east and west Colchester and includes Cymbeline Way, Colne Bank Avenue, Cowdray Avenue and St Andrew’s Avenue. A report to the council’s cabinet said officers had considered other ways of trying improve the A133 including upgrading Greenstead roundabout.

But funds and timescales meant “these proposals have been deferred in preference to junction improvements”

I'd though I'd finally make my first contribution to the forum.

The former Silver Jubilee Bridge link roads in Runcorn have finally been converted into a roundabout with new links to the Runcorn Expressway, Runcorn Old Town, Greenway Road and Runcorn Station.

After years of delays due to the deterioration of the old bridge, the bridge is still closed with an estimated opening of Feb 2021. The bridge will be tolled as per the Mersey Gateway Bridge when it reopens.

It's unknown at the moment what road number the old Bridge will obtain when it opens, as the old number A533 is now assigned to the Mersey Gateway Bridge. I suspect it will be A557, and it may loss it's PRN status.

Some legislation was published this week to make sections of the A40 and A487 in Fishguard one-way, with the opening of the new relief road through the old co-op car park in the town centre.

In that area, what is the point of the A4219? Since the A40 Fishguard bypass opened I can't see any point in it remaining classified. Goodwick/ferry traffic surely uses the A40. A40-A487 traffic to/from St.David's direction would use the B4331 or different minor roads from Fishguard or Scleddau.

Just browsing Facebook, as you do, and this project randomly appears as a suggested read. I don't think I've seen anyone post about it, though.

https://www.medway.gov.uk/downloads/dow ... _documents

The project includes a new junction with the A289 linking to Higham Road and Islingham Farm Road, connecting this to Woodfield way and improvements to roads in the area to allow new houses to be built around Hoo. It also includes a new "relief road" (which they really should call a development route as that is what it is), a new roundabout on the A228, replacing two roundabouts on Peninsula Way with traffic lights and local rail improvements.

This completely hideous and uninspiring road scheme is underway in Blackburn:

https://democracy.blackburn.gov.uk/docu ... 097547.pdf

The genius of the plan is now forcing 44t HGVs to make a very difficult left (or right) turn between a corner shop and a former pub, because they can't build the western half of this road because it would run through a woodland.

A bit like this https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3853451 ... 312!8i6656 sharp bend on a previously unclassified industrial road. Now a primary route as part of the Warrington centre park link road.
