Post by Gav »

Not all at the same time but who has managed to drive on every motorway....

I sat the other day and tried to work out if I had and actually think that I may have been on all the UK motorways at one point or another...

Maybe not driven the complete lengths of all of them but have done a considerable distance.

I think I've been on all the English/Welsh ones as a driver or passenger except the M20 and the M23. The M2 I've only done as a coach passenger many years ago.

I've never been to Scotland though.

I've driven on at least some of all the GB motorways Mx except the ones below.

M2 (except as passenger)
M20
M23 (except as passenger)
M26
M48
M180
M181

I reckon I've done most of the Ax(M) too except for possibly some in NE England.

I don't think I've ever done any length of A3(M), M53, M57, M58, M180, M181 or M271 in England and Wales. I've never driven on a Scottish motorway, though I have been a passenger on the M90 many moons ago.

Oops - not done those. Everyone has remembered my very local A57(M) and the A627(M), haven't they?

(goes to add M898 to other thread)

I have driven the entire length of the F6: M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6

I can't claim to have bagged them all, though. I've never driven on the M90, M876, M18, M180, M181, M271, M275, or the former M10.

I feel the M90 is a very underrated motorway so if you like good scenery, you'll enjoy a run up the M90. It's especially enjoyable to drive between Glenfarg and Perth.

I wanted to drive the M90 the time I drove to Dornoch and back! But I had a row with my wife on the A9, which led to me opting for the quicker way back down the M80/M74. We'd managed to make peace by Carlisle, but it was too late to avoiding losing the M90.

I can highly recommend the M90 - I'm very glad I used it when I went to the far north.

The A90 by comparison is very pretty compared to most D2 English roads but I should probably have looked for some brown signs to follow the coast instead of the A90.

I had a friend at university whose dad avoided motorways and dual carriageways. I have no idea how long the journey took when the dad came up to collect the friend at the end of term: they were from Ipswich and the university was Lancaster!

Done bits of all the English single digits, with the exception of the M2.

Also driven all of the M32, bits of M18, M40, M42, M54, M62 and A1(M).

A14(M) A308(M), A329(M), A404(M), too, if they're not too Steveny to be counted. ;)

I'm afraid that I fail early on, also at the M2. I don't think I've been on any of the other motorways in that area either (apart from the M25). Other than that the rest of the single-digit ones (IIRC I managed to get the M10 before it went) and probably most of the 2 digits. I wouldn't like to even guess the rest.

edit: Out of the first 6 the only one I've driven the whole length of is the M6, although I've been the whole length of the M5 as a passenger.

I'm almost there. I've just not done:

M53 J1-J11
M57
M58
M65 (that I can remember)
M66
M77 J5-J8
A601(M)

...yet. I could probably do all but the M77 in a day trip one fine day.

Yes. All GB and NI motorways (including A195(M) etc) though not quite the entire lengths of all of them - there is a patch of M4 between Bristol and Swindon that I'm missing, plus bits like underneath M6 J11 which is utterly pointless from where I live.

I keep track of this on my wiki profile page. As either a driver or passenger, I've been on every part of every motorway except the newest part of the M56 and the M180 between junctions 4 and 5.

Ive done the following full length, including now defunct

M1 ,M2, M3 ,M4,M5, M6(Toll) M10 (RIP), M11, M18, M20,M23, M25, M26, M27,M32, M40, M41, M42, M45, M48, M49, M53, M57, M55 , M58 M69, M66, M61, M65, M67

M180, M271, M275, M602, M606, M621,

A1(M) all sections, A3(M), A38(m), A40(M), A58 (M), A64(M), A6144 (M) A48(M),A57 (M), A102(M), A194 (M), A167 (M), A329(M), A308(M), A423 / 404 (M), A601(m)

Driven but not full length

M54 (not gone westwards past A41), M6 (M1 to J40), M62 (Missing A1 (M) to M18), M60 (Not done eastern side from M62 to Stockport), M56 (Missing M53 to A494), A627 (M) (not gone north from M62).

I believe the only motorway in England I have not driven is the M50.

Also not driven on any motorway in Scotland as I have only been to Edinburgh and went up the A1, so I could say I had driven the full length of the A1.

When I drove to Edinburgh I went up the A1 and down the A7, so that I could bag both!

I've driven them all. I've done most of the ones in Northern Ireland too.
