The 1.6km A142 Ely Southern Bypass scheme. It has a 300m twin-box viaduct over the River Great Ouse.
The contract of the £35m bypass was awarded to VolkerFitzpatrick of Hertfordshire (part of VolkerWessels) in August 2016.
VolkerFitzpatrick also improved (grade-separated) junction 10a of the M1 in April 2015. Junction 10a is not technically an M1 junction, but a junction adjacent to the M1 on its spur, known as Kidney Wood Roundabout, where the M1 met the former A6, which went north-south into Luton. Pepperstock is junction 10 of the M1, and was also improved significantly. Not sure when the A1081 single carriageway extension, to the east, was built, probably 1990s. The dual-carriageway extension (East Luton Corridor) made the Kidney Wood Roundabout obsolete.
Organised by ICE East of England, Cambridgeshire branch, joint meeting with the IStructE.
LR6 - Cambridge University Engineering Department. 18:00.

From the SABRE Wiki: Silverlink Interchange :

The Silverlink Interchange is a three level stacked roundabout interchange.

Originally this interchange had two levels, the A1058 flew over the roundabout and the A19, Silverlink turnoff connected at ground level. This caused traffic problems as traffic coming to and from the Tyne Tunnel had to stop at the roundabout. Due to this a new three layered junction was built.

Work on this new grade separated junction started in summer 2016 and finished in spring 2019. Now

It was originally allocated the number A446(M), though due to its non-standard number, the number M600 is used for administrative purposes.

I'm attending the evening talk on the 17th at M1 23a-25, mainly to hear from Dave Cooke than the project team.

And if anyone wants to hear the bits of the A14 scheme they won't tell you about on the official tour, I can set up a webinar

The talk is given by one of the project managers. The scheme at the Silverlink Interchange is due to end in March 2019.

Re: Professional organisation meetings for January

Meetings for January 2019,

15th (Tues),
Kegworth Bypass Bridge, Kegworth,
The talk is about the new A6 Kegworth Bypass. Over the weekend of the 12th May 2018, the M1 was completely closed to build the bridge. I can't remember what the diversion was. The bridge was built by the Buckingham Group. Buckingham Group also built the Copper Box Arena for the 2012 Olympics.
The East Midlands Gateway development was maybe why the bypass was eventually built; as Bedfordshire's The Adventures of Stevie V in 1990 told us on the dance floor - money talks. When money can be acquired, or is accessible, from tree branches, Kegworth would have had a bypass twenty years before. Ask John McDonnell about how this could be possible.
The two speakers are Adam Smith of Buckingham Group and James Parson of Cass Hayward, the designer of the bridge.
Organised by ICE East Midlands.
Yew Lodge Hotel, Kegworth, 18.00
See here and here (PDF).

16th (Wed),
Bridge distress caused by approach embankment settlement, Preston, 18.00
This talk is a bit more civil engineering that most here would probably cope with. Or maybe you are all PhD civil engineering types? If you know your soil mechanics, then you will like it that much more.
The talk is about the geotechnical performance of Surtees Bridge, the A66 bridge over the River Tees near Thornaby-on-Tees, built in 1980.
The speaker is Chris Danilewicz of Jacobs.
Organised by ICE Lancashire and the ICE North West Geotechnical Group.
FB 025 (Lecture Theatre 3), Foster Building, UCLAN, Preston

21st (Mon),
Queensferry Crossing – Inception to Completion,
The speak is Lawrence Shackman, Project Manager for the Queensferry Crossing.
Organised by the CIHT.

22nd (Tues),
Lower Thames Crossing: A new connection for Essex, Chelmsford,
The project will be the UK’s longest road tunnel.

29th (Tues),
Crossrail - how is it being delivered? Middlesbrough,
Not on-topic. Joint meeting with the IStructE.
Apparently 10% of all journeys on the London Underground will be on the Elizabeth Line.
42 km of 7-metre diameter tunnel has been built.
7 new subsurface stations up to depths of 40 metres.
Stephenson Building Main Lecture Theatre, Teesside University, 17.45
