Professional organisation meetings for March

The study of British and Irish roads - their construction, numbering, history, mapping, past and future official roads proposals and general roads musings.

There is a separate forum for Street Furniture (traffic lights, street lights, road signs etc).

Registered users get access to other forums including discussions about other forms of transport, driving, fantasy roads and wishlists, and roads quizzes.

These, and other events like them, are usually attended (and paid for) by the companies who have been shortlisted for an award, and are used to entertain clients. It would be rare for individuals to buy tickets.

Autonomous vehicles – are they as safe as we are led to believe? Hatfield,
Autonomous vehicles have the potential to reduce the 1,770 deaths, nearly 25,000 serious injuries and 138,500 lesser casualties each year on UK roads.
A three-year UK Autodrive project ran trials on a test track and in Coventry and Milton Keynes.
Speakers include Tim Armitage, the UK Autodrive Director from Arup.

A737 Dalry bypass scheme, Kilmarnock,
Construction began in July 2017, and opened seven months ahead of schedule in May 2019,
The presentation is by Transport Scotland, Mouchel Fairhurst who designed it, and Farrans Roadbridge who built it.

There will be a site visit after a brief presentation about Smart Motorways and the M20.

Meet at the Kier Group company site off the A228, north of the M20 junction, at Leybourne at 9am. There will be a cold buffet lunch in the canteen, at the conclusion. Bring PPE, including hard hat with chin straps.
