It puts me to thinking about the viaduct over the West Coast Main Line to take the HS2 Birmingham-Crewe line.

This will pass over the WCML at a very acute angle, so it will be a long bridge.

Isn't that showing the crossing to be in a tunnel?

River Lea Viaduct is labelled if it's where I think you're all referring to. It's a long viaduct with what appears to be short spans over the WCML.

I see how I have misinterpreted embankments as cuttings and viaduct as tunnel, mainly because I didn't see the profile image at the bottom !!

Having a closer look at how the bridge is drawn puts me in mind of this very-skewed bridge.

Quite a nice single-span railway bridge here on the M60 at Brinnington near Stockport

Wow, I first drove under that railway bridge at the bottom of the M66 some 30 years ago, when the southbound M66 to M63 transition threw you into the blind righthand curve towards Stockport (above which the A6M was MEANT to continue south) at 70mph.

Happy days?

We've drifted off topic, but I think that bridge was designed by the same team as this slightly smaller version, which was opened a little later:

Good point "wrinkly". I look forward to seeing how these improvements affect this junction which is in our area. The rapid implementation is a testament to the planning and execution of modern updates. Mike

I've never yet driven under, or looked at pictures, of that bridge on the M80 without thinking it looked alarmingly low. It's not, of course, there's just something about the height of the bridge structure compared to the space below, and the vertical alignment of the motorway, that makes it look like it's going to take the roof off your car.

Thankfully avoided with this one: https://goo.gl/maps/VD4CR91jRUvDUWZ58

But I've always thought truss bridges like this and the M80 one are so damn ugly and hideous. Yes I appreciate they're a single span and need to be massive due to the load transfer a moving train causes but EEEEEEEEESH. No wonder Helvellyn gets depressed about modern designs.

I'll take a truss bridge over this stodgy abomination any day of the week. Ugh.

I could have guessed as well, I have passed under that one many times. It's called the Lyne Railway Bridge, and is on the Chertsey Loop Line between Chertsey and Virginia Water.

The one at Bristol is pretty unsympathetic too, guessing BR just went off the rails a bit? (boom boom!) https://goo.gl/maps/zdPrkrGkrMKcc9bUA

Going back on topic, I hope the J19 bridge is shorter than 150m or it's actually a tunnel...

I feel somewhat the same. Familiarity with the M60 bridge could play a part - it's about twice as high above the motorway, because the railway goes over Lingard Lane which goes over the M60.

The M6 through the junction has had the 50 limit removed; NSL restored.
