At least it's a 4-zone number, so they got that right. But otherwise? Yuck!wrinkly wrote:Is there an existing thread for this subject?

How about this one from "Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story"?

While Bean & his Mini are timeless, a lot of the street scenes have many cars that are practically extinct these days.

Here's the old intro I'm on about. It first appears about six seconds in - in the background.

I don't think that you would see the A3 and Southsea signposted from as far away as Chandlers Ford or Eastleigh.Bryn666 wrote:Vera leaves Whitley Bay shocker.Beardy5632 wrote:There's this classic on an episode of Vera.

Re: Roads and signs on TV and movies
But in terms of road numbering it's a good job.

Re: Roads and signs on TV and movies
That looks like the a1 / a19 junction just north of Newcastle looking northwards before they did the recent remodelling of that junction about 4-5 years so.wrinkly wrote:So what's actually going on in that picture? Where was it taken and did they modify the sign? What date was the programme set? It looks roughly like a sign that might have existed before the M3 reached Soton.
Never watched Vera before but they set up in our village for a couple of weeks last summer filming the most recent series. They used our village garage in some scenes.

Feel free to add any relevant numbers and their TV programmes to the page.
Have you browsed SABRE Maps recently? Get involved! - see our guide to scanning and stitching maps
From the SABRE Wiki: Fictional Road Numbers :
Roads often feature in drama series, either in television, on radio or in books. Sometimes to add to the "authenticity" of the fiction, road numbers are used. Usually these numbers are dreamt up by the relevant author or production team, but occasionally the Department for Transport are aware of their usage and may suggest numbers to be used. Where the DfT are aware, those numbers are blacklisted from use for a period of time, usually three years.

Re: Roads and signs on TV and movies
It's the Seaton Burn junction looking north. The reason they've modified the sign is because the episode was related to a body falling off a bridge in Newcastle and ending up in a skip in Portsmouth.wrinkly wrote:So what's actually going on in that picture? Re: Roads and signs on TV and movies
If watch the actual episode and look closely at the much smaller sign in the foreground, its possible to make out an untampered 'A19 (A189)'.Beardy5632 wrote:It's the Seaton Burn junction looking north. Re: Roads and signs on TV and movies
Quite a few years ago I read a newspaper article about old photos of busy street scenes. I can remember the writer saying that the best way of attempting to date such a photo was to look at the cars. This was because buildings will often hardly change for decades while the clothes that people are wearing can be misleading because fashions tends to be cyclical.RichardA626 wrote:I was watching some old Mr Bean episode at the weekend.

It's this sign, surely (or the one before it).haymansafc wrote:The original Hollyoaks intro used to feature the predecessor to this sign on the M53! Sadly, it pre-dates Google streetview.

There's also this sign in a well known intro.
Which I'm guessing was an older sign in this location.

The late 60s/ early 70s are usually easily identifiable from the fashions.trickstat wrote:This was because buildings will often hardly change for decades while the clothes that people are wearing can be misleading because fashions tends to be cyclical.
