Re: Roads that don't look like roads
I drove down this road last week. I was touching the undergrown on both sides and since the streetview shot in 2009, the grass/weeds in the middle have grown up and there are holes. No passing space at all really. Very uncomfortable going. It is currently marked as "temporary road surface" at either end.

Re: Roads that don't look like roads
Strictly speaking the reverse is true - there are many examples of minor roads throughout the UK which crossed the sites requisitioned for wartime aerodromes and so were were closed for the duration of their active use, but were then reopened when the aerodromes were no longer required. In some cases, in the case of 'permanent' aerodromes, it just proved more convenient to re-route a pre-existing road along the line of one of the runways when it was reopened.Johnathan404 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 30, 2018 22:21I thought this was going to refer to the several Minstead turns.B4444 wrote:Looks more 'obvious' from above!

The unnamed road past Cadman's Pool is an odd one to drive, until you realise it's built over an old airfield.

Plenty more of those in http://www.wetroads.co.uk/. All the fords you could ever hope to imagine, plus tidal roads and crossings over the sands (e.g. the right of way over Morecambe Bay). Enjoy.
