Is anyone here interested in geology? It is fascinating to observe the new cuts through the soils all the way along this section.
Driving thrombosis caused this accident......a clot behind the wheel.

I hope so, it’s taken two years so far.
I’m so glad to be working from home now instead of commuting that route.

Any updates on this project?
HE website doesn’t display any updates since the 18th May.

Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
Been a while since I last ventured onto the M1, but from the occasions I have run on footbridges crossing it, as far as I can see J13-14 is basically complete, with 14-15 not far behind.
There's a nice long footpath at the top of a bank that runs basically alongside the motorway just south of J14 for half a mile, I'll try and run along it in daylight hours at some point to get a better idea of what is going on.

I passed this way late last year, round about November, and the "Progress Sign" stated it would be complete in 20 months. Like a lot of contractors, I suspect the very wet weather in autumn, plus Covid19 strictures have delayed the project. For instance the Congleton Link Road was originally expected to open Late-2020, but now shows Spring 2021.

That's summer 2022 - around the expected date of completion.fras wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:55I passed this way late last year, round about November, and the "Progress Sign" stated it would be complete in 20 months. So it's not delayed, or the sign isn't being updated as well as the website !EpicChef wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:58That's summer 2022 - around the expected date of completion.fras wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:55I passed this way late last year, round about November, and the "Progress Sign" stated it would be complete in 20 months. Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
Slightly OT but the Congleton Link Road has been delayed because of water table issues, I don't doubt covid hasn't helped, but they have done a lot of unplanned work.fras wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:55I passed this way late last year, round about November, and the "Progress Sign" stated it would be complete in 20 months. Had a trip up and down this section of M1 today and was pleased to see that J13-14 is now fully open, though the matrix signs were displaying 50 when I drove northbound, 60 on my return. Southbound it was fully open from Newport Pagnell services. The rest of the works are all at 60 in both directions. Hopefully not too much longer now.

I went up for New Years and J13-Newport Pagnell was 60 both NB and SB. On VMS not fixed signs.owen b wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 17:51 Had a trip up and down this section of M1 today and was pleased to see that J13-14 is now fully open, though the matrix signs were displaying 50 when I drove northbound, 60 on my return. Any further update? How close are we to the finish line?

Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
I get the feeling we could have built an entirely new offline motorway quicker than half of these SM projects.

I think we should!
An East Coast motorway extending the M11 and meeting the ends of the M180 and M62 would maybe be an idea!

Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, the four lanes between J14 and J15 opened, albeit with a 60mph speed limit. It will probably be a couple of months before those are lifted.

Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
Is that including the length between Newport Pagnell and J14, or had that already opened?

Re: M1 J13-16 ALR smart motorway
I drove north and south along this stretch over the weekend. Northbound was fully open NSL J13-15, then 60mph three lanes J15-16 (Friday evening). Southbound was three lanes 60mph J16-15, then four lanes 60mph J15-MSA, then 70mph four lanes MSA-J13 (Sunday evening). The signs are saying that the scheme finishes in February.
Annoyingly there's now central reservation works (barriers I think) J12-13. This section was only smartified a decade ago, I'm surprised there's works here.
I am looking forward to February, at which point hopefully there will be no roadworks or related speed restrictions on the M1 between the M25 and the M6. It was 2006 when the M25-J10 widening works started and there hasn't been any lengthy time period since then when there haven't been major works somewhere on the route. Two years or so to build it, 17 years to widen it..... kind of anyway.

Suspect this is ahead of conversion of J10-13 to ALR
