Greatest number of destinations on route confirmation signs

Post by skiddaw05 »

Or whatever they're called these days.

There's 8 on the this sign on the A46 Lincoln bypass here, the most I think I've seen. But are there any with more?

I can't find the thread but I think there was a previous discussion in which that sign was the winner.

What about the ones on motorways just before a major motorway/motorway junction?

I had wondered about the first sign West on the A590 after its TOTSO junction with the A591 but that only extends to 7 destinations.

Though it's 9 with the co-mounted direction sign!

The M90 has 6 destinations listed here - not a great number compared with the other examples in this topic though. Another 6 here. The A90 has 6 here, too, so I guess not that unusual after all.

This sign must be a contender for "most destinations on a single road" on an ADS though!

I think I can beat your 5 with 6 just a couple of miles away:

I think the reason for the absurd number of destinations (many not even primary route destinations) was to tale traffic round the M90 when it was built rather than through Perth. I guess the sign information has never been updated.

If you count these two signs as one (why they are on 2 signs is beyond me, although one contains ports and the other contains non-ports) then the M2 has 8...

They're probably on two signs precisely because there's so many of them! Reduce the number of words on any one sign and you improve the chances of a driver finding and assimilating the information they need.

Because "(M90)" was apparently too easy...

Do bi-lingual signs count?

This is exactly why the French have "TOUTES DIRECTIONS".

I was at Redpoint in Ross-shire in the summer, and this sign at the start of the B8056 has been changed to a ginormous one, must be about 12 feet high. I didn't take a photo, unfortunately, but someone might be able to stop by if it's on their commute or something (!) to confirm just how many names are now on it.

There's a 7 here, at the northern end of the C79 around eastern Harris.

More notable about the C79 is the fact that its number is signed, just like many other C roads in the Outer Hebrides.

It may well be that my memory is imperfect, but I swear I've seen junctions in France with just a green "TOUTES DIRECTIONS" and a white "AUTRES DIRECTIONS" and no other signs.
