A1(M) Blind Lane Interchange Junction 63 Signage?

Post by Chris56000 »

Hi!

Can anyone tell me why the A1(M) Blind Lane Interchange, junction 63, has got such an array of botched signage on the approach roads?

We've got the sign approaching the A1(M) roundabout from the A167 Chester-Le-Street which is a mess and past it, somebody put up a Guildford Rules-type sign on the A693 Stanley approach, and botched it by missing off both the chopsticks and junction number patches off the blue A1(M) panels, then we have the same mess, but in white, from the Sunderland A183 direction, but somebody remembered the junction-number patches this time, but still no chopsticks, then we have the approach from Picktree Village along Picktree Lane with absolutely NO direction sign at all! (Why?)

Who's responsible? HE? Durham CC? Gateshead/Newcastle? Or is the junction in "No-Man's Land" where nobody knows who's signage this motley collection of mistakes is?

Chris Williams

PS!

The North East seems to be endemic for "not quite a motorway" where chopsticks have been missed off blue Motorway Panels, sometimes only on one side or approach road of a junction roundabout, even when both sides of an interchange's approach roads have been resigned about the same time, junctions 1 & 2 on the A194(M) a bit further north-east being a case in point!

I would think that Durham CC would be responsible for the signage. Although the A167 and A693 are shown as primary routes on the OS maps, neither of those roads are trunk according to the Wiki (so HE should not be responsible for those roads) and the A183 is a non-primary route. The border between Gateshead MBC and Durham CC is nearly a mile to the north of Junction 63.
