Yes, but I guess it still had to have planning permission from the council.Berk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 19:59Wasn't funding approved in the Budget??multiraider2 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 18:21As you may have seen by my posting in the wrong place, now approved by Cornwall Council.

It looks like it is still the plan to start construction next year with the view of opening the new link road in 2022.

Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
I have to say Cornwall Council are getting on with construction, a bit concerning that they are borrowing a lot too though! Slightly linked to the new route, Cornwall Council built a massive energy from waste incinerator, however for the last year it has been out of action for some repairs, and all Cornwall's waste has been put into landfill in Devon. Not very promising!crowntown100 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 19:04It certainly has. I'll have to get a half decent camera and get up there when they start. I'll have two scheme's to report on down this way by this time next year!multiraider2 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 18:21 As you may have seen by my posting in the wrong place, now approved by Cornwall Council.

What's happening with this road, I can't find any updates. I had expected it to be under construction by now for the 2022 completion date but there is still no work on the ground.

Thanks, it now looks like the road won't be open to traffic until 2024.

Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
The latest update states awaiting confirmation of funding from the Department of Transport, set for this spring.
West Carclaze Garden Village has now started being developed in earnest along the A391 at the southern end of this proposed link road so there will be an increase in traffic along the existing road to the A30 through the village of Bugle. Up to 1500 homes are due on this site.
On the latest Google Maps there is now a site office for the construction company for the link road at the north end, here (zoom out for the map as an old streetview image)

I had thought that the A391 would be completed before the new section of A30 further west but it now looks like the A30 will open first.

The planned road has now been given the money to proceed.

Good news but how can construction 'begin immediately' as I presume that the contract has not even been put out to tender yet?Norfolktolancashire wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 15:52 The planned road has now been given the money to proceed.

Agreed, I cannot see anything so far on that, however one of the site enclosures is being constructed as per my post further up.IAN wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 16:13Good news but how can construction 'begin immediately' as I presume that the contract has not even been put out to tender yet?Norfolktolancashire wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 15:52 The planned road has now been given the money to proceed.

The main contract was awarded in 2019: https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornw ... nk-3429090IAN wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 16:13Good news but how can construction 'begin immediately' as I presume that the contract has not even been put out to tender yet?Norfolktolancashire wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 15:52 The planned road has now been given the money to proceed.

It looks like a good scheme. I have far less of an issue with the circuitous route for A391 to/from A30 west traffic discussed above than I do with the similar detour for the A390 at Chiverton Cross. Access to the A30 west will be much better on the A391 than at present (indeed, one would hardly even consider using the current A391 to go in that direction), whereas the previously direct route on the A390 is sent round the houses.
Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
100% agreed with these comments. The lack of left turn filter (as current) from A390 to A30 is a scandal. They could literally use the filter that's already there. The mind boggles.

Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
Looking at a map, is there any reason why the route doesn't go east of Roche instead of west? This would make the route quite a bit shorter, goes further away from Goss Moor, and means it would end up nearer the A30 junction. Otherwise this does look like a pretty good scheme.

Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
Great to see that construction is finally going to start on the road, now due to open in spring 2024. Work was supposed to start in 2019, still not sure why there's been a 3 year delay. The A30 upgrade will now be completed before this scheme.
Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
My first assumption was so that it can avoid Goonbarrow clay quarry which would be more difficult building. But the route will have been described based on future house building potential!Mapper89062 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 20:50 Looking at a map, is there any reason why the route doesn't go east of Roche instead of west? Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
It avoids impacting Roche Rock, is further away from most houses, and saves crossing the railway lineMapper89062 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 20:50 Looking at a map, is there any reason why the route doesn't go east of Roche instead of west? Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
Nice to see they are cracking on with this. This road will seriously cut down on time from Penzance / Redruth to St Austell, effectively bypassing Truro. It will also reduce traffic heading down the A390 at Chiverton. Much of the strategic traffic in Mid Cornwall will use different routes to get about from 2024, will be interesting to see how it changes.
Re: A391 St Austell to A30 Link Road
Interesting point. Presumably St.Austell <-> Newquay traffic will use the new road, so the A3058 from St.Austell to the A3076 junction could be demoted to a B road. I wonder if the new road will be part of the signposted route for St.Austell <-> Truro, if so that part of the A390 presumably no longer needs to be primary.Gaz909909 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 08:02 Nice to see they are cracking on with this.
