Where exactly is this (probably) Liverpool 1982 picture from?
At the end, this picture is shown. Anyone know where exactly it is from? It is probably somewhere in Liverpool and in 1982.

It looks like a railway bridge in the background, built very flat to suit the track and deep to take the weight. Apart from that I have no further knowledge.

I've had a good look around Liverpool and the rest of the country but have drawn a blank. There are some observations. D3M with lane 3 hatched out. Streetlighting on the motorway. Red hard shoulders.
I've been looking at junctions with a bridge nearby that Fras mentions but without success so far.

I see no third lane hatching.
And 'flat and deep' could be a canal rather than a railway. Just speculating.

Where the guy is sticking his hand out there is an extra lane between the two normal lanes and the central res.

I’m slightly surprised they were still there then.
Did they not get removed until the 90s??

It's a footbridge, though it looks like it was built wide enough to be used by vehicles, possibly for farm use.

They stopped being provided from 1975 onwards but examples survived for years afterwards.
There was still one at the end of the M53 and the A66M until very recently.

If you use the Streetview timeline thing and look back at 2008, the two signs are still there (albeit newer versions).
Re: Where exactly is this (probably) Liverpool 1982 picture from?
It was a railway bridge built to connect the Cronton Colliery (opened in 1915 and closed in 1984) that sat south of the M62 and north of Cronton Lane. The branch ran up to Huyton Station on the Liverpool-Manchester line. Look on the 1:25000 Sabre Maps.
The bridge is unusually shaped when you look from above. I think they had to knock out the north abutment to fit in the the M57-M62 curve and put in a narrow footbridge segment instead.

Re: Where exactly is this (probably) Liverpool 1982 picture from?
Thanks Bryn. Not seen it referred to like that before.
Re: Where exactly is this (probably) Liverpool 1982 picture from?
Not only that, but it's fenced off at both ends.

A current example of the sign and the island at the M45/M1 merge.

Despite driving under it 3 days a week, I've never actually noticed its weird shape, given its fenced off and appears to lead to nowhere I wonder why they with the new section when the road layout was changed.Big Nick wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 10:55It was a railway bridge built to connect the Cronton Colliery (opened in 1915 and closed in 1984) that sat south of the M62 and north of Cronton Lane.
