Sheep rescue M6 Junction 31

Post by Norfolktolancashire »

Just noticed this on the Highways England camera near Preston this afternoon.

The River Ribble has suddenly flooded after lots of rain and sheep have been herded onto the higher ground in the middle of the figure of eight roundabout at the junction of the A59.

How would they have managed to restrain the sheep and prevent one of them from running out onto the road and getting run over? Do you think that the road was closed at the time of the flooding just in case any of the sheep did run off?

Indeed. Last summer it was more of a Dribble.

You often see the fields to the north waterlogged though but that's good because it's part of the Brockholes nature reserve and the birdies love it.

Firefighters always close the road before commencing livestock rescue operations.

Here's footage via the local rag of the rescue. There is a freeflowing westbound lane off the M6 onto the A59 at this point so a good job the electronic signs were working just prior to the junction of the M6.
