N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport announced on 07.05.19 that the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project has obtained planning approval and is to progress to construction.
Minister Ross said:
“This new national road will provide essential links between communities. As well as a new carriageway, the project will include an additional 13 km of side roads and existing road improvements, 17 at-grade T-junctions and 5 roundabouts.”
The project comprises the construction of 34 km of new single-carriageway road that will extend from the western end of the existing N5 Ballaghaderreen Bypass to the townland of Scramoge in County Roscommon, bypassing the towns and villages of Frenchpark, Bellanagare, Tulsk, and Strokestown.

Re: N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project
The existing N5 in general is probably of the lowest standard of any single digit N road. It doesn't nearly have as many bypasses for the villages as the other roads do and it is often quite narrow, but then again it is likely to be one of the quietest of the Nx routes serving a rather sparsely populated region in the west of Ireland.

Re: N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project
This scheme has now been approved for the main works
the new route is significantly north of the present one, perhaps by 6-7Km. It veers towards Elphin and parallels the R368 and R369 to some extent. It is 34m of new S2 and works on an additional 13km of side roads and existing road improvements, 17 at-grade T-junctions and 5 roundabouts.

This scheme will be delayed as the main contractor Roadbridge has gone into receivership. This may also affect schemes elsewhere, including the A5 in NI and projects in Britain.

Very sad - and very concerning - news at that. Sorry for all those in Roadbridge who have lost their jobs. This surely means the road project will need to be re-tendered now?

The underbidders should be give a chance to do it. However, they may not want to stand over their bids in these inflationary times.Enceladus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 03:49bothar wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:19 This scheme will be delayed as the main contractor Roadbridge has gone into receivership.
