We have a four way cross roads junction not far from us that, until recently, had stop lines and signs on all four approaches. Google earth still shows it that way but, street view shows the new layout which is stop from the east and west.
Sorry, I have no idea how to post google earth and street views but, this is the location.
52°14'09.40" N 6°35'01.37" W
Maybe this will work.

(Recently? Google Streetview showing the "new" layout is dated 2009!)
Ooops!
I'm going that way on Thursday, taking my son and a couple of his friends to The Hideout, a pub in Tomhaggard - about 7km to the east.
I'll stop off at the junction and get a picture!
Yes, Stevie D. I got it the wrong way around. It used to be a standard through road north/south, with Stop lines and signs from east and west. NOW it's stop from all directions. It was difficult to get a photo at ground level that takes it all in, as it's quite tight. But this is my best effort.
My son believes that this layout is not used in the UK, being found only south of the border in RoI. Can anyone confirm this?
Sorry! Just read the post from Jervi (page 2 above) quoting chapter and verse. "Explicitly forbidden"
I will now appreciate this junction even more!!

There is a nice Irish 4-way stop near Kilcullen, which shows the warning sign. The reason for the layout is pretty evident.
Irish road design borrows a lot from American ideas and then smashes them against British ones creating something bizarrely unique in Europe.
I still think 4 way stops are a daft idea though. It's pure "sign make it better".

No "u" in Harborne (I used to live there). This setup does look weird, but works. It gives priority to A4040 heading south, with traffic from the High Street (B4214) having to give way to it, but High Street traffic has priority over A4040 northbound traffic - unless there is southbound traffic as well, which there often is. Also note that there is no right turn onto the High Street, you have to use the roundabout just beyond the junction to achieve that movement.
Any suggestion for changing the priorities there would probably result in the use of traffic signals, with traffic backing up onto the roundabout.

It does work but I do find you have to take extra care when coming from the roundabout to go south on A4040. It is amazing how many vehicles where that blue car is seen simply ignore the give way and carry on to the roundabout, presumably assuming I'm carrying straight on into High St.
Also Lake lane (the single lane track that crosses the other road) is a public road, but has "no motor vehicle signs except for access" signs on either end, but at this junction is missing them.
It's only a two way give way, but both give ways are side by side. Normal operation is take it turns to go (and give way to traffic turning left from the two way road), but make sure that's what the other driver is doing too.
Hmm, it looks like there's been a dismal attempt to black out the GW markings on Gt Clarendon Street, and the centre line continues through the junction. Perhaps there was a change of priorities.

Well, if you can't turn into the road but only access it from straight across, you could argue that you don't need them.
