- but slightly cheating because the nearest line to the camera is the 1 tph heavy-rail line between Stockport + Chester. The far line is Metrolink only - but is the most common reason that the barriers are down.

As far as I know all of the other road crossings are standard red-amber-green signals

Hmm, I thought the tram crossing of New Swan Lane, West Bromwich, was wig-wags, but it turns out to be RAG lights for road traffic, and presumably the white line signals for the trams (can't see these on Streetview).

On the 'unusual things which use wig-wags' theme, I drove past here the other day. I've seen plenty of fire stations, and ambulance stations with wig-wags, I don't remember seeing a police station though

I must have gone past these hundreds of times, yet I've never seen them in use: if a police car is on the way in or out they just give way to traffic as normal.

Ballykelly is the one that comes to mind although I'm not sure an actual level crossing existed. The runway was extended in 1943 to cross the railway.

I crossed the Ballykelly airfield level crossing in a train almost 30 years ago. I can't remember if the runway looked as though it was still in use.

Less relevant to a roads forum, but Filton airfield had a level crossing- to allow taxiing planes to cross the (freight only) Henbury Loop railway line.

So not really relevant to this thread either, as trains are involved.

This has to be the most laid back level crossing I've ever seen. No gates, no wig-wags, no traffic lights, just a stop line on the road.
I'm sure that trains pass through here at walking pace to reach the storage sidings but it's still very low-key.

I'm pretty sure the hovercraft crossing in Lee-on-the-Solent had wig-wags when it was in regular use.

Manchester Steel in the east on the city had something similar to Forgemasters. It had once catered for both rail and road traffic crossing Forge Lane. I can't recall what sort of traffic control was used and I never saw anything molten but some big stuff got moved back and forth. Long gone, Forge Lane is now Alan Turing Way and the National Cycling Centre and the Etihad stadium are either side of it.

Not quite. Alan Turing Way is the old Mill Street. Forge Lane was slightly to the west and has now been lost under reconstruction for the stadium (which also took away the steelworks). You can still figure out where Forge Lane ran, however: it was the northern continuation of Grey Mare Lane and its bridge over the Ashton Canal still exists.

Also regarding wig-wags for Tank Crossings on Salisbury Plain. There are none on the A360 or the A345.

Wouldn't say its a crossing but I've seen barriers with wigwags at tomnahurich swing bridge in Inverness a few times. But have seen just the wigwags at some airports and fire stations but they haven't been actual crossings.
