Paintings of roads - can you spot where they're from?
Don't cheat but there's a brilliant artist I follow on Facebook called Jen Orpin who is currently painting a series of motorways and bridges from around the UK. I found her after appealing for people to tell me about their experiences with the M6 for the book I'm writing.
Anyway, I think they're fantastic and thought you all might like a gander. As a bonus see if you can spot where they're from...

That's very photo-realistic for a painting.
But I can't help but wonder... why?

There's some very obvious ones such as Forton. Her talents could be put to good use in finishing incomplete junctions such as the missing M12 at Woodford. Or how about drawing some of the big junctions on the North Cross Route.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?
Big and complex.

It's realistic for the present time

I don't mean to be picky (they are very good) but the one entitled "Heading North" shows the tower at Forton on the right hand side. So surely you'd be heading south?

They've got a sort of Ladybird Book of Civil Engineering look about them.

A nice selection of pictures there – and thanks for sharing them. I think there's a haunting quality about quite a lot of them. Maybe it's the sky.
Just one minor point – the first picture of Forton Services that we come across (second row, far right side), notes it as heading north. However, with the tower on the northbound side of the road, we're heading south!
I think the middle one in the third row is at the M55's eastern terminus. The slip road onto the M6 southbound.

The journey is never over until the arrival.

Jen Orpin was featured speaking about her art on Mary Anne Hobbs 6 Music show today. Manchester City Art Gallery has purchased one of her paintings.
Catch her speaking for about 2 1/2 minutes, 37 minutes in

Re: Paintings of roads - can you spot where they're from?
I really like paintings showing roads although I do favour the more surreal images. I have one on a prominent wall at home (it took a while to persuade the wife about this) of 'Garrowby Hill' on the A166 in Yorkshire - a painting by David Hockney. This has a considerable amount of artistic license but I love the colours and the patchwork quilt of the fields with the road disappearing into the haze. You can even see what appears to be the escape lane although it's not quite accurate. Also no sign of the AA box further down the hill. As I said - artistic license.
I'd take a photo but it's probably against copyright rules so there's a link to one on eBay here.
