Perhaps this section should be preserved as a rare example in Europe of a road built in the 21st century to this standard on a trunk Euroroute.

The proposed scheme seems to making the best of the situation and is needed.
One good thing in the animation is that that they seem to be going to use the existing relatively wide hard shoulders to have slip lanes of reasonable length and not expect people to turn into 70mph traffic from stop.

Here's a mammoth statutory instrument for the stopping up of a number of private accesses on this stretch: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr/202 ... tents/made

Handy summary of the scheme with some big numbers!
Mr McEvoy explained the scheme said it would see four additional Grade separated junctions. Six existing minor roads will be linked to a grade separated junction while 21 remaining minor roads will be reconfigured as left in/ left out only. Nine minor roads will be closed up. On the stretch there are currently also 174 private and agricultural accesses which the scheme plans to reduce to 127 which will operate as left in/ left out only.

I can scarcely believe that a scheme of this size is costed at £65-£75 million (though probably it does not include 60 years' maintenance as HE costings do).
