PS - The article title is grammatically adventurous...

Quite an old word actually - the grammar is poor though - it is a verb ! A better use would be
"The people of Darlington await the proposals with impatience"
As for funding I can't say I am surprised, since the scheme was launched it seems to have morphed into a link road for new development around J59

See page 68
The area=is euphemistically called the 'North Western Urban Fringe'

Plugging into the existing roundabout was rejected for traffic reasons (correctly so in my view), expanding it to the south east or adding a smaller roundabout was rejected for environmental reasons.

I find the brown option for the junction with the A1(M) interesting to say the least

For me it’s looking a lot like the M1 J46 mess down at Leeds 🤔 oh and that now needs £100 million plus spending on it as it wound cope with the new ELOR……. Personally I would plug the Darlington one into the existing improved junction!

The original reason put forward for the new road was to get through traffic for the A1(M) area off the A1150 which goes through a built up area.

The trouble is even before the road had been approved developers and the council were planning the new housing estates they were goind to build along it.
