The road is coming on well, D2 from mid Scotland is soon to be increased several more miles towards the Highlands!

The A9 Dualling Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project is set to achieve a significant milestone as the new Stanley/Tullybelton Junction and overbridge comes into operation for the first time next month.
The new junction, the largest structure of the project, has been under construction for more than two years and has involved 268 tonnes of reinforcement steel, 1,550 m³ of structural concrete, 15 precast concrete beams and approximately 500,000 m³ of earthworks to construct. The earthworks for this junction alone account for two thirds of the earthworks for the entire project.
From June 8, road users will be given a taste of the benefits of this major infrastructure investment to dual the A9, including improved safety for traffic joining and leaving the A9 carriageways with the creation of new north and southbound slip roads.
Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
Gàidhlig first on signs in Perthshire, does that really reflect the language spoken by people in the area? I'd question if bilingual is necessary Southeast of the Great Glen and anywhere on the mainland should be English first to aid the majority of local drivers.
Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
They must be a tiny minority. Although Aylth does have bilingual street names, but they look to date back quite a few years, so not I suspect a result of current rules.
Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
This is a big structure for a minor rural junction. I wonder if there really is any cost saving for a compact GSJ with slips folded under the bridge like that compared to a full size diamond or dumbbell.
Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
The order of the languages is only really important that it is consistent, and does not change at administrative boundaries. That the order is set as
Gaelic
English
Is far less important than that the languages are placed equally, consistently, and distinctly. Which they are.

Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
I Agree but the reason is the A9 Dualling is being constructed to a Category 7A Dual Carriageway (one category down from a motorway!) so this junction fits the criteria.

Amazing photos, thank you Glen!
This caught my eye...
Panels on flag signs. No no no.
Still, glad to see the team that completely screwed up the signage on the AWPR has found gainful employment on the A9.

It also shows rather a lack of consistency in not being bilingual.
Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
Good point. I wonder if that is the difference between the A9 being Transport Scotland, the links being P&K Council.SouthWest Philip wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 19:24 It also shows rather a lack of consistency in not being bilingual.

Re: A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam construction
The one that caught my attention was the river bridge, with what appears to be the remains of a much smaller bridge next to it. I'm guessing that the old bridge is this one - the new one really seems to be much bigger than needed.
