So I was just browsing Google Street View along the M6 toll when I came across this image below. It was right on T2 northbound exiting onto the A38.
As can be seen on the left of the sliproad is the "Start of restrictions" sign, whilst merely metres ahead is the "End of restrictions/motorway" sign. Can't help but wonder why they didn't just end the restrictions here since the road inevitably leads to an A road anyway....

Most pointless "Start Of Restrictions" sign ever?

There is also a start of motorway reg sign at the other end. I presume the signs facing the other way near them are end of motorway regulation signs.

It seems that the Wide load / toll admin access road is under motorway regulations, however the car park either side of it isn't. I presume that allows staff to park there. However that does mean that there is a pedestrian crossing the motorway here

However even more odd is that on entry to the wide load route / access road there are 30 signs, however the start of motorway regulation signs don't have a 30 sign next to them, so if exiting from the car park the speed limit is 70, but only 30 if you enter from the slip road.
Also if you head down the side access road from the A38 using a vehicle (but not motor vehicle) you have no where to go since its one-way and motorway regulations start at the other end

However I do agree with you, motorway regulations should stop before the wide load route re-joins, and also stop at the start of the wide load route to allow the pedestrian crossings to be more legal.

I was thinking Garwood St entrance on the Mancunian Way might be similarly pointless but there doesn't seem to be a 'start of restrictions' sign there. There are 'end of restrictions' signs just after the point where it joins.

It's not completely pointless. Assuming you're driving an authorised vehicle, you can fork right here and end up on the entry slip at the other toll booth, not passing the "end of restrictions" sign.SBRoxMan wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 13:52 So I was just browsing Google Street View along the M6 toll when I came across this image below. However, I think I've found the real most pointless one here, just past that toll booth. If you came from the A38 (the only public route), you already passed this sign. If you used the access road from the other tollbooth, either you never passed an "end of restrictions" sign after leaving the main carriageway or you passed the sign mentioned above. And even if you've been hanging out at the drainage ponds, well I have to assume the sign I can see the back of here is another start of restrictions sign. So however you get there, you're already under motorway restrictions - and having just gone through the toll booth, you should know it's the M6 Toll.
