From the SABRE Wiki: Denham Interchange :


Denham Interchange is junction 16 of the M25 and junction 1A of the M40. It is very similar in layout to Winnersh and Croft Interchanges, with variations in size and orientation, except that at Croft one left-turn slip road is on the inside.

The creation of this junction meant the moving of the west-facing slips of Denham Roundabout.

The earliest known plans for the junction date from 1964 when it was planned to be

Curiously I was using these very slips yesterday just as this was being posted, and looked at it all.

The original slip used to come in notably handy for parking abnormal loads, doing fuel checks, police car layover, dumping tarmac reserves, etc, but a while ago it was substantially Jersey Barriered off, and then reinforced on top of that, both ends. Presumably it had become a location for some illegal activity.

Notable as being the last place some years ago I saw one of the old Northern Line Underground carriages, on a parked-up low loader, going to the scrapyard.

Looking at the aerial photo of the Denham roundabout, I only just noticed that you can still see the original path of the (A40) Oxford Road going through the middle of it!
