A roads not signed on Motorways
Yesterday I noticed as I approached M1 Jct 13 southbound all the new sign now only have A421 . The new overhead gantries is not yet on GSV
At the end of the slip-road in the first mention on the A507.
I know Highways England don't want to overload motorist with more than their brains can cope with and most people who don't know where they are going are probably using a sat nav, but it is nice to confirm the road is there and this is the right exit.
Especially as there is a Centre Parks off the A507.
Is this a new policy, does anyone else know of similar omissions.

Recently HE policy has been to overload signs so this is actually a surprising development.
The A507 was on the old J13 signs, presumably Ampthill isn't deemed significant enough to count now. Are there any "For Ampthill leave at J13" type signs?

Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
The M4 westbound exit signage at J5 has long failed to sign the A4 to Slough, only to the local community, Langley, despite it being the obvious junction for the town. The following junction J6 is so signed, but this brings traffic in well past the town centre, needing to double back. The signage on the mainline at J5 even makes the explicit point to continue to J6 for Slough Central.
Can't be that HE have some concern for reducing traffic, as during the long running work closures on this section they have constantly sent night/weekend traffic this way.

Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
The upgrade isn't finished yet but I did not see any. While I agree there isn't much along the A507, Ampthill at about 10K is the biggest town but it is a decent cross country road as far as the A1(M).

Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
It is always my preferred route to the M1 from Letchworth and I sometimes used it when I lived in Stevenage (this was even before Stotfold, Shefford etc were bypassed).
As regards satnavs, I suspect there may be others like me who only tend to use them when they really need to. Someone from somewhere like Derby or Leicester going to Center Parcs might glance at a map and think "it's straight down the M1 and left onto the A507 near Milton Keynes".
Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
It may be that this is the local authority’s preference, so the signs direct traffic in via the route they favour. If the M4 is closed that preference goes out of the window.WHBM wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 08:01 The M4 westbound exit signage at J5 has long failed to sign the A4 to Slough, only to the local community, Langley, despite it being the obvious junction for the town. Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
Going via the Salt Hill junction may be longer in miles but being dual carriageway all the way it would be quicker for the town centre. Also, given that much of the Slough traffic would be for the Industrial Estate this is the best route.WHBM wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 08:01 The M4 westbound exit signage at J5 has long failed to sign the A4 to Slough, only to the local community, Langley, despite it being the obvious junction for the town. Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
I missed this sign, which at the time was obscured by a temporary sign at the start of the slip road, that said it is late.

Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
Not on a motorway but in Middlesbrough just east of the A19 interchange the A66 has signage to "Riverside Park" and "Cannon Park" in both directions and absolutely no mention of the A1032 to Acklam and Haverton Hill.
Re: A roads not signed on Motorways
The A1032 is secondary and as a through route has now been supplanted by the A19. Prior to building the A19 Tees Viaduct the A1032 over the Newport Bridge was the only alternative to heading through Eaglesciffe and central Stockton which was the A19 route.
