A6025 closure

Post by Bryn666 »

I haven't seen a reference to this, but the A6025 near Elland has gone a bit Mam Tor.

How many roads are at risk of permanent landslip damage now? There's an ever growing list.

It's hardly on the Mam Tor scale of things but, the A35 just west of Morecombelake is starting to slip again. There was major work to stabilise it roughly 15- 20 years ago so, it has lasted well but, there are cracks and slight slippage again. The trend now for torrential rain can't be helping. Sooner or later they will have to bite the bullet and either rebuild as an S2/1 online or D2 on a new alignment.
Roads and holidays in the west, before motorways.

Calderdale has had regular floods for years which can cause major infrastructure damage, the earliest written account dates from 1615 and here is an example from 1946.

Unlike Mam Tor their is a plan to fix this, at Mam Tor the whole hillside is unstable and sliding.

Yes, I'm aware of the problems in the area - I was working there in highways when the 2012 floods hit, and it's only recently Elland Bridge reopened after a partial collapse due to flooding.

Above Hebden Bridge, Lee Wood Road (the access to Long Causeway over to Burnley) has been narrowed to a signal-controlled S1 for fear its edge could slide down the hillside. I recall many mornings driving a double-decker full of kids bound for Calder High School along the section of road that is now under the pavement.

On the other side of the Hebden valley, the A6033 had a similar (but shorter) S1 section at one time, and IIRC was closed during the summer of 2020 for remedial works.

B6521 from Eyam to Grindleford. Has that ever been repaired or formally closed?
