The British one does, but apparently the American one never did! It started in Chicago...the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 20:43Courtesy of QI how about our own Route66? Not as long but it does at least run from west coast to east coast.
As far as I'm aware, the only US highways that ever ran coast-to-coast were Route 20 and Route 6. Of those, I think 20 is the only one that still makes it!

On a similar note, the N66 in Ireland. Similarly to Route 66, it no longer exists.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 20:43 Courtesy of QI how about our own Route66? Not as long but it does at least run from west coast to east coast.

Chicago is of course on the coast of Lake Michigan and even has a naval base. In WW2 the USN operated 2 aircraft carriers on the great lakes.Owain wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 18:50The British one does, but apparently the American one never did! As for coast to coast highways.
Interstate 10 runs from Santa Monica to Jacksonville Florida
Interstate 80 runs from San Francisco to Teaneck New Jersey on the Hudson River just north of NYC
If you want to be pedantic the the A66 starts east of Workington and ends at Grangetown neither of which are on the coast

Electric Avenue, Brixton
Electric Avenue, Nottingham
Electric Avenue, Birmingham
Electric Avenue, Liverpool
Electric Avenue, Southend
Electric Avenue, Northampton
I believe Eddie Grant was singing about the Brixton one.

A slight varient. A friend runs a marketing agency. It's small but has some big clients (Marston, Decathlon, Vodafone, Dominos).
One of his self-marketing ads says he's only a short walk from Regent Street, and Covent Garden is just across the road. But of course he is not referring to London.

Fifth Avenue, Margate.
Margate is dedicated to being like New York City. It also has First, Second, Third, Fifth - but no Fourth*!
*Yes, I know there is a Fourth Avenue in NYC, but it is so short and doesn't run the length of Manhattan like the others. The Avenues go First, Second, Third, Lexington, Park, Madison, Fifth for anyone who doesn't know.)

It's a lot more picturesque than Fifth Avenue, Letchworth Garden City.

That comment reminds me of someone who got a football coaching job by claiming to have played football at Stamford Bridge. This was true but...Alderpoint wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 17:10 A slight varient. A friend runs a marketing agency. It's small but has some big clients (Marston, Decathlon, Vodafone, Dominos).
