Probably not what you are looking for, but following the Exit signs at Kings Cross underground station from any of the deep level lines.
These all eventually lead to the new Northern ( as in furthest north rather that the tube line ) rather the the original ticket hall.

It’s quicker to get of the M42 Eastbound at Junction 2 for Redditch than Junction 3 as signed.
Likewise from Central Birmingham the A441 is the more direct route to Redditch than the A435 which is signed. ( Until 20 odd years ago it was the signed route)

Re: Quicker to Ignore Directional Signs
I am not convinced that the Dorchester by-pass (A35) is much quicker than going straight down the high street, though in recent years driving through Poundbury has increased the time taken for the most direct route. The biggest hold-up on the by-pass is the roundabout where the A35 crosses the A354 (to Weymouth).

I'm quite surprised the missing link in the dualling between J2 and Redditch was never fixed. It seems like an obvious and not particularly difficult section to dual on a new alignment.

The problem of what are ostensibly major roads being funded from the same pots that deal with minor residential streets.
Back to the argument for regional strategic road authorities that cross all the tiny council areas and provide a consistent route management system.

Re: Quicker to Ignore Directional Signs
Of course a journey on the new signed A3047 to Camborne and Redruth takes longer than the old A3047 through Tuckingmill and Pool.
