Hi sabre, first post here but thats nothing, I found this photo and it looked similar to the old A9, just with some changes.
I noticed that it had a falling rocks sign, which is strange because just round the bend there is infact, a very large hill.
I noticed the photo had an old junction which looks like it might of been removed because of the new A9.
It also appears to be a very similar bend around the corner. If any of you can identify this photo, i'd be thankful.
Google maps link to the presumed location is here: https://bit.ly/3lzJZ4W
Quick notice: The pole looks very similar to it in 2008, before it was raised up.
Hope this info helps, and if you find any discoveries, be sure to let me know if possible!

The GSV picture is "for 1/2 mile" whereas the photo is "for 1/4 mile", so probably not. Any idea of the date of the photograph?

No clue, but it does appear to have a bare similarity. Im not too sure the date im in honest; But its well before the A9 it appears. Looks to be about 30-40 years ago, as the sign appears to be pretty new. Also, about the plate? I think they might of changed it as the bends stop half way up. Heres a photo from my map (where the signs are.) It appears the bends stop after the sign; so they must of replaced it because there was no point on having it beyond that length.

My problem is that the photo definitely warns of falling rocks but I dont see where they would fall from in the GSV picture ?
Is it the old A9 in the Killiecrankie/Blair Atholl area perhaps ?

I can't help you (I've driven the A9 a couple of times, but I haven't ventured off it onto its former sections, except the bit that is now A95), but somebody here will get the answer...

Looks to me a lot like the A86 west of Newtonmore - not that far away. The road is a narrow S2 with edge lines but no centre line. There's silver birch growing close to the road in quite a few places. It's bendy, and there's steep rocky slopes on the north side to supply the falling rocks. Also there's quite a few places where the road is raised up above the ground on one side like in your photo. I've had a quick look in GSV and didn't see anything that struck me as a good match for the exact location, but much of it looks pretty similar.
