They allow exit from a private driveway onto the A406 - and appear to be operated by a pedestrian crossing-type push button next to the driveway. That seems wide open to abuse!
Good spot, though perhaps you were once stuck in traffic long enough to see it.

The same as this one at Stow on the Wold, the signal is here, opposite the exit.

Never yet seen it in use - just spotted the traffic lights when passing once and thought they were in a strange place. I wonder how many people don't notice them when they do change?

This one in Ledbury has one signal for 2 exits, which is here.

And if both families want to leave their houses at the same time? ;)

Does that mean that there are vehicle detectors set within the private driveways? Or do the driveways get a green at every sequence?

Any kind of vehicle detection on a driveway is going to give false-positives - the fact someone wheels a lawn mower along their driveway doesn't mean they're leaving the garden, or even in a vehicle.

The ones I've seen generally use microwave detectors on top of the signal head, rather than building loops into private driveways.

If demand is likely to be very low, a push-button can be installed to activate the lights if needed. There's one of these near me which is a public road but only accesses about four houses and a council depot.

Here's another at the A429/A424 junction just outside Stow. The left road leads to a couple of farms and the right road leads to the house visible.

One day I'll remember to stop and see how the lights are triggered, but there's a house link onto the A650/Rein Road junction at Tingley Bar, Morley, Leeds.

Snow Hill Queensway/Colmore Circus Queensway has a light for the exit of the Wesleyan building:

How about a private road with its own Level Crossing light (the link is to the light which is opposite the road)?

I take your level crossing and raise you one actual railway...

(oh, and a private road.. link)

I imagine there are quite a few traffic lights, and crossing lights, for business accesses throughout Trafford park, though the majority of the latter are unused now.

There's a level crossing near Newark which appears to exist only for access to a Severn Trent site. On a Sunday you cross it three times on the journeys between Lincoln and Nottingham because it's is in the section where the train reverses having served Newark North Gate to then go onto Newark Castle.

There must be several LCs on private roads all over the country.

There'll be thousands - mostly farm tracks crossing rural lines. However, the number that are light controlled, rather than just protected by signs, will be minimal.

Studley Road, Redditch. Microwave dtection seems to be in operation here. If you rotate, you can also have a giggle at the house whose drive appears to be blocked by a tree.

It looks like a detector pointing into the drive of the right hand house and a loop in the pavement in front of the left hand house.

They're loved on Merseyside!

Within about a 5-10 minute walk from me there are 4 sites and one junction which has been provided for very little traffic...

Portico Ln, Whiston. Spin the camera round, there's 4 properties served by signals here. Each has a loop in the pavement, and each has a Plessey Mellor lantern with Louvres on all aspects.

Warrington Rd (A57), Whiston. This one has 2 driveways serviced. Again, this uses loops, and each property has a single lantern (Siemens Helios, one with all-tunnels and one with all-box louvred aspects).

Cumber Ln, Whiston. There are 3 houses served here, all with loops in the pavement. The one pictured in the link is the primary to a driveway serving two houses, the secondary is on another column. The other two lanterns are here. As you can probably make out, the one on the right is the secondary to the first 2 houses driveway, and the centre on is for the 3rd house. This one just mimics the southbound signals, but has a loop to enter a call.

Dragon Ln, Whiston. There are two properties (behind and left of the camera) served here, both with loops. They both just use this one signal head, however.

And there are also these which spring to mind:

Whiston Village. This little driveway access for the back of the properties has a primary and secondary, and uses AG MVD.

Tarbock Rd, Huyton. A few drives served here by loops, all share the one Helios on the right. It was a Mellor previous to this, but that got hit.

Cronton Rd, Huyton. New driveway access has been built recently, and so it has been signalised. This has a loop and the one signal head you can see here.

Hillside Rd/Liverpool Rd, Huyton. This one has two driveways with one large loop in the pavement, again served by the one signal on the right.
